I was a little bored today. Sunny here in the NE but very windy and cold. So, I was fooling around on the internet and found a couple of things. Turns out I graduated high school with Stephen Schwarzman who founded Blackstone. He is now worth about $10 billion. Boy did I hang out with the wrong group. I don't recall even knowing him. I was a little surprised about that. But I also discovered that an old friend, Ken Montgomery had passed away about a year ago. Ken was 5 years my senior and I worked at his gas station my first year of college, and generally hung out there. Ken taught me a lot about cars. I was there when he got his famed Triple Nickel, 1965 hemi Plymouth drag car and actually worked on it. I was there on its first race at York drag strip in York Pa, 1965. I lost contact with him and other friends from the station after college as I moved to CT. I had no idea that he still had the car and continued to campaign it all these years. Ken was a great guy and apparently made his mark in NHRA drag racing. I had moved on and was more interested in road racing, Indy cars and F1. What can I say, looking back on the memories I wish I had stayed in contact. http://bangshift.com/general-news/sad-news-super-stock-hemi-hero-ken-montgomery-passes-campaigned-the-famed-triple-nickle-for-almost-50-years/

I don't get it John. Is it a New England inside joke?

Henry - I'm here in CT and don't get it either, so I'm guessing not a New England joke... but that said, I'm originally from NY. :) Looks like John hit post before he was done typing...

Yes, sorry about that. My sloppy typing some how hit a combination of keys that caused the dam thing to post before I finished writing.

Anyway I first met Ken (we all called him Kenny) when he had a Citco station in the center of Glenside. There were always a few hot rod around that both hen and his brother build. Kenny has a green bucket T roadster. His older brother, who's name I can nor remember, was killed in a car accident back in late 60's. I remember he had a 37 Ford couple which I designed and fabricated the rear nirf bar for in metal shop in high school. Kenny had to give up the Citco station because the company didn't like all the hot rods around, or so the story goes. After than he had an Amaco station, seen here: Ken Montgomery, PA racer, Super Stock | Mopar News Blog & Discussion at Mopar Muscle Magazine

Again, from recollection, his father was, I believe, an editor of the Chilton repair books, or something like that. I also remember at one time he had a 5x T bird with a 427 in it. One day the car disappeared. Turned out it was seized by the police because the engine was stolen. what can I say, memories from back in the day.
