Probably same reason why the 1M got a lot of amazing reviews compared to the M3. The 1M was more E30/E36 of a feel and not overweight.

I love the E46 Tourings. Would be nice to throw in an S54. :)

I haven't taken any decent ones yet.
These were just two I had on my phone of when I took the pup over to my dad's house a while back.
*edit: they weren't sideways when I uploaded them(??) Turn your head to the left I guess.

I bought a 1987 E30 (325es) a little more than a year ago. The seller sold it to me for only $1000 because he told me it would need a new engine right away. Turns out it just needed a little love and a new airflow meter. It's the best car I've ever owned and I will never sell it. I've put over 40,000 miles on it since I bought it & it currently has 530,667 miles on the original engine. I drive the snot out of it everyday. It has an M3 limited-slip diff & its chipped, so its a little more peppy than a standard 325es.

Awesome. Love the 325es, which is no slouch in stock configuration, yet has poise no matter the whipsaw. Hard to believe it's a 27-year-old, innit?

Wow the interior is in very good condition, nice score.

On a side note since you paid so little and it is a I6 version I wonder if it would be worth considering a engine swap to the S38B36 engine (from the E34 M5)? Just a though.

The final year of the 740i in m sport is IMO the prettiest BMW ever made. I love the earlier m cars from the late 90s and early 2000s but they're just not my style. This thing is lovely to cruise in and is great to look at every day. I put off buying one forever but eventually couldn't resist it :)

Bill your car looks great! Same year as mine, but you have the Recaro seats and the other MTech wheel, which are both items I'd love to have in mine.

Stunning BMW! The E38 is by far my favorite BMW sedan ever. I'm amazed at how many running E38s I still see on the roads compared to their MB S-class counterparts!

You actually made a point... Maybe it's just that I notice the E38s more but they are far more frequent than the 90s S-class!

I dunno, I prefer the e38 but that W140 is one hell of a machine with epic build quality. I don't see as many E38s as I used to, mainly because they're just frighteningly expensive to overhaul when you get up there in the mileage. Most people write them off, which I completely understand. However the 2000-2001 sport models are just timeless and beautiful to view at any angle. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they made as many s classes. I don't remember seeing very many even when they were new. The Bimmer is definitely far and away the prettiest sedan of the past 15-20 years. But when it comes to build quality that W140 is an absolute TANK.

Thanks, what color is yours? If you're going to buy one of these things you have to get an 01 (final year). There's no excuse not to lol. I had to have the rare imola red. It looks incredible. I always had a thing for the white ones too. Those are very pretty. I have a boatload of miles on mine. 180k. But everything is fixed and overhauled on it (20k worth of repairs) so I'm in the clear for a good while as far as big repair bills go. Just nickel and dime stuff from here on out. Only two catastrophes left are the engine and tranny which I will replace when they go. Getting it resprayed this weekend too to get rid of stone chips, scratches and dings.

You should convert it while you have the engine out. Nice buy btw. I've noticed the prices on the e39's starting to stabilize and even increase

E39s are beautiful, the m5, 540, and 530 sports are all good lookers. I was always a big fan of the 530 sport with the bbs style wheels with the lip. nice little upgrade from the standard 525. The M paralell wheels looked sharp on it as well. But these wheels suited the car more IMO. This is the only time period of BMW that I like. Not a fan of the old ones or the new, although they do look much better after they kicked bangles butt out finally. Pretty much any bmw 2000-2003 ordered and optioned properly still looks fantastic and timeless today. Always nice when you dont have modify anything on the car cosmetically :)

Anthracite over grey. I would have liked a different interior color like tan to give it a contrast but it was too good to pass up. I have attached a picture from the day I bought it.

These cars are serious gems which I think get passed over too often. It does so many things well it's crazy, and the way prices are, presents a great value.

Beautiful car. Im not a fan of the gray interior either but the gray that bmw uses is pretty sharp when it has the plum/purple looking hue to it. And you're right it does do everything well. When I drove it a few weeks ago for the first time in many years I wasn't expecting much due to its age. Man was I wrong. Handling is phenomenal, throttle response is torquey and nice, and it comes out of corners while accelerating so well. It's like the car knows exactly what you're thinking. It also seems to give you a decent shot of torque without down-shifting gears which is something that I've never experienced in any other car. It only orders up another gear if you're really giving it a go. It cruises beautifully, engine sounds great when accelerating, it is a true drivers car. All of these new big sedans are just all about toys and gadgets. This car is nice and quiet but is a true drivers car whenever you want it to be. And it switches personalities in less than a split second. I think BMW knew that they had a masterpiece on their hands. There was nowhere to go but down after the E38. I'm not even going to get started on the car that came after it. It's so ugly and bad that it isn't even worth discussion. I'm really not even much of a BMW guy. Just a big fan of that era.

..............................................I too really like the looks of the 740 BMW, very nice , So much that i think i might try the BMW thing after so many years, I just started looking and found what i think is a good deal on a 2004 745 , its not the same but similar , can anyone tell me if there is something i should look for or look out for on the 2004 year models ?
