Yep, age is a problem, my original ones are 23yrs old now and showing signs of side wall perishing.

 

From a 355 brother to one from another mother, please put new tires on, and you seriously won't believe the ride quality difference. I had 8 yr old Michelin Pilot Sports on my car 2 years ago, and after putting fresh Michelin Pilot Super Sports on I couldn't believe how pliable yet responsive the ride was. Totally made the love affair reignite! Cracks in the pavement were no longer a stress-inducer and I wasn't constantly thinking my suspension needed a full rebuild.

My old tires could have lasted another 3-4 years but the grip sucked and the ride sucked. Not the most confidence-inspiring thing when we acknowledge our tires are the only thing holding us onto the road!

Tire tech has evolved a LOT in 8 years, please take advantage of it! You'll thank me, honest.

 

After 7 years (5 years) a tire will be old and hard. Profile may look good, but traction is gone.
So, after 7 years, just change them for fresh one's....!

 

6 years from date of manufacture, regardless of miles.

After we had a woman die here at work riding on old tires (9 years old) they made a big deal out of it. We also had the Paul Walker incident.....did 8 year old tires cause his wreck? Sure as hell didn't help.

 

5 years max in hot climate.....even if never driven.

Rubber loses its stickiness....check the date of manufacture as displayed on the tyre...just because u bought a tyre in 2014 does not mean that tyre was manufactured in 2014.

And with 380 bhp you can tell.....just go round a roundabout with old rubber compared with new rubber...

It's scary the difference.

 

I will do 4-5 years on performance cars, 6 year max on basic transportation. As others have said the ride, grip and integrity of the tire is not the same after 5 years no matter how few miles are on them.

You are far better off with $600 new tires than $1500 5 year old tires.

It's a fun goal to make sure they look ready to be replaced by year 5 so I don't feel guilty tossing them.

The scary thing is tires with a 700 treadwear rating. You know people are leaving them on for 10-12 years (if not more).

 

I have Pirelli P Zeros on my 355, age unknown with plenty of tread.
I looked at the side walls trying to determine a date of manufacture .... Without any luck.
Plenty of numbers on the tire but hard to determine month and year of manufacture.
It is 4 am here and yes I am using my reading glasses and had a cup of coffee so help to determine the date of manufacture would be helpful.
