I bought this off eBay - it was advertised as a 348GTC exhaust heatshield. It's made of the same material as my ordinary 348 heatshields but doesn't match anything on my car. If someone could confirm/deny and if possible tell me a part no that would be great Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The material is right but I don't think it is the right part. It's missing the metal brackets for instance that are used to mount the shield to the engine frame.
Very strange as it doesnt appear damaged in any way????!!!! I can put more pics up if it helps. The profile looks like it was designed to fit between the exhaust can and the back bumper but cant see anything in the parts catalogue that looks similar for a regular 348??
Jeff, This may be. On mine I have a silver mat to protect the bumper but in the Ricambi catalog you see there may be an additional piece which I have never seen in real life. Maybe this is it. I can tell you that this is NOT the shield that intake tubes lay in top of NOR the one that protects the tail lights from exhaust heat. Both look VERY different from yours.
Have you got a link to the ricambi catalog as I normally use eurospares but nothing showed up under the challenge section.
It's ricambiamerica.com. It also does not show anything challenge specific for exhaust shields. My understanding is that although there are exhaust changes on challenge vs non challenge the heat shields did not change between models.
Does anyone out there with a gtc have a pic of their engine which ight show it? Would love to know what I have
Definitely the upper shield similar to the mid to late 348s. Helps protect the plastic tail light backshells. Ferrari 348 (1989-1992) Parts : Table 14B - EXHAUST SYSTEM - VALID FOR USA SPYDER . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Took a couple more photos - looks too wide to be top piece....? Pic of the profile too - seems to be not dissimilar to the back bumper but wont fit down in my case as I swapped my exhaust for a capristo Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Jeff, definitely not the top shield for a 348. It is missing the mounting braces and should not have the raised area on the top. Brewman
I think its some kind of lining for the rear bumper....? Has anyone got a pic of the inside of a 348 GTC bumper?
It was described as a 348 one and its made of the same material as the other heat shields. All very confusing
Nearly bought this myself Jeff. Could not work out what exactly what it was for either. At first I thought it could be some trick under tray but now looking at it I don't think so. Profile looks wrong for that seeing your pics as opposed to sellers. Weird for sure. Could be off something other than a 348 I guess.
Yep, when you put it that way... it doesn't match the OEM upper shield at all. Not per the parts diagrams anyway.
A '348GTC' is not a Challenge car? Something off the rare 'Competizione' we were discussing in the other thread??
The U.S. got the SS while others the GTC. https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355/370521-348-gt-competizione.html
My gut feeling is its some kind of liner for the inside of the bumper but as mentioned I cant try it as my capristo is in the way (clearance is tighter compared with my original exhaust). If anyone finds out what it is - particularly with a pic that would be great!
Thanks Darren. BTW If you know any GTC owners who need one get them to give me a shout as it doesn't look like I will be able to use it with my exhaust and a shae to waste it.
Unfortunately the closest GTC owners to me are in another hemisphere but you might have some luck posting in on Club Scud.
Jeff, Sorry for the delay, I have been travelling this week. I tried to take a photo under the car but it didn't work out (very fuzzy). The piece you have sits between the exhaust and the rear bumper, I assume it is there to protect the Carbon Kevlar bumper from excess heat from the muffler. I hope that helps?
