Hello my friends to the north! I will be travelling to Montreal toward the end of June and wanted to see if there were any Canadian F-chatters that might be up for a drink or showing a Texan around your city. The AAPL is having their annual convention June 25-28 and I will be arriving Tuesday, the 24th. Staying at the Fairmont. I also know this is during the Jazz fest. Are there areas of this that are better, that locals prefer? I tend to like things that are away from the tourist-trappy scene, so as to experience the true character of the city. Who's with me? Thanks in advance!!
You will have a blast! Montreal is amazing for food so get ready to eat out at some of the local restaurants. I was just there not long ago for probably the 10th time and always love it. Things to do: Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Grand Prix du Canada - Formule 1 Montréal | Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve Casino (Same Island), Casino de Montréal - Québec's casinos The Biosphere, Montreal Biosphère - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Mount Royal Parc, Mount Royal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Notra Dame Basilica, Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal Food/Beer, Le 3 Brasseurs, The 3 Brewers / Les 3 Brasseurs Club SuperSexxx has quite a reputation, I won't tell you why. Old Montreal, Historic City Center: Old Montreal I had a nice meal at Wienstein & Gavino's, Wienstein & Gavino's Make sure you walk the downtown core around Stanley, Peel, Crescent Street and Rue Saint Levesque I think it is. Quebec is ALOT like Europe and France. Be ready for lots of amazing pastry/bistro stores and some amazing food. Utilize the public transit, it is very easy and you can buy a weekend/3 day pass and travel everywhere really.
Get a hold of this guy (bernardo66) before you go. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/members/2885.html
Scott it's great that you'll be visiting us but the timing is not great because you're in between all of the area's greatest car events. June 8 Grand Prix weekend (city is buzzing, parties everywhere) June 14 Ottawa Festival (2 hour drive but an amazing italian car / Ferrari festival in our capital) June 24 St-Jean Baptiste (in summary, it's Quebec's 4th of july) June 29 Ferrari FXX festival and vintage legends Ferrari races in Mont Tremblant's historic track July 6 Fiat Breakout (Montreal's official Italian car Festival in Little Italy)
I'll be there the evening of the 24th, what's the best place to take in the sights and sounds of St. Jean-Baptiste day? I had hoped that we'd be there to watch the F-1 race, but the organizers found scheduling a beast, especially considering it's Jazz Festival week. I can always push my departure, but the family may not approve I'll be staying at the Fairmont downtown, so I'm sure there are tons of art/culture/foodie places around that area. Where is the best nightlife scene? Is Fchat member Night Life still on here? I was going to PM Bernie later if he didn't get on this thread. Thanks all for the replies, keep them coming!!
I'm stil here...just not in a Montreal-Board-Of-Tourism kinda mood. The suggestion in post no. 2 are fine. However, I would replace Super Sexe with a visit to Wanda's.
Sorry, Bernie, I'm sure you get hit-up all the time. Wanda's is probably not on the agenda, but thanks, it does appear to be a fine establishment I appreciate everyone for all of the suggestions, so please post more when they come to mind.
Wow, looks like fun!! May try to see a bit on Friday before our big party that night. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. I like experiencing restaurants and bars that the locals hit, gives me a better feel for the vibe of the city than the big, expensive for the sake of it types of places. Love hockey, but I'm afraid the players wouldn't be the main attraction!
I could be available the 24 or the 25 so you can email me if you like. I'll drive the 456GT for the occasion
Denis are you sure you want to drive a red car for the St-Jean Baptiste? ;-) If you have a blue one it would be better.
Then I will take my Jetta TDI (dark metallic blue), I tought that with the Liberal party running the show it would be now "politically correct". Hope that you have a good time in Laval
I went to the Orange Julep on Decarie tonight. Met some guys with nice older 911. Other than that just lowered VW and Honda. Pass in front of Ferrari Québec but I'm always too shy to get in that place. I went to Rolls Royce to talk with Kelly but he wasn't there. The salesman showed me a 348 they have and a 355. The 348 is not bad at all.
Woohooooo...really? The founder of Quebec's Separatist Party Rene Levesque has been proclaimed a Saint already??? Now I know why I chose to be an atheist....
Thanks for the links, lots of great things for sure!! Where do you locals like to go for a light meal, maybe drinks, that is not necessarily a tourist attraction? What are your favorite dishes, special drinks there? Thanks all for the replies, I am looking forward to visiting your magnificent city!
Smoked meat:Schwartz on St Laurent=it's a landmark Lots of Greek and some Italian rest. were you can bring your own wine. Les Jardins De Panos (Greek) on Duluth is a good place and there is lots of rest.-bistrots-cafe terrasse in old Mtl with european atmosphere.
I'll have to try that! Odd for me to think of walking into a place and ordering "smoked meat" without any prior knowledge, but hey, why not!
We'll, I'm here, made it in late yesterday evening. Had drinks with some friends at The Keg and ate at the hotel's bistro. Plan to see more of the city today and maybe just wander around a bit. Shoot me a PM or email if anyone wants to get together.
