Still.....I think he has owned the car for a long time wich is nice to see.

 

It was on the entry list for the BPR revival that happened a few months back.

Didn't turn up though.

 

A few more photos from Daytona in 1996. As far as I am concerned this is the ultimate mordern Bugatti. It was pretty and fast.


By the way, it was a very rainy cold race day at Daytona that year. The Daytona 24 Hours is always cold. One year it got down to -3 C and everybody was running around in shorts trying to pretend like it was warm...I am from Chicago and I find that crazy!! Only in Florida

I always dreamed one day I can come up with enough time to handcraft an eb110 myself.
I'll be using a 90-96 300ZX chasis and put maybe a Modena drivetrain&electronics into it

 

I once had a little ride n the Edonis in UK when it was here doing a test against the F1 GTR

I have a photo of the 110 RHD taken in B Engineering private museo when there back in 2001.

 

The RHD car is now in UK right ?

 

Yes believe it was sold by Amari a couple of years ago.
Not sure if Mr Borel sold it to someone in uk first then Amari got hold of it but it was for sale in 2003 so there is 8 years unknown.

My first sighting of it was 2000 when I first visited B Engineering an Pagaini through a close friend and EB110ss development test driver.

 

Outstanding thread.

I actually disagreed with Brock Yates when the EB110 came out. He was of the opinion that it should have been a more retro design, while I thought it was a great modern design. He actually printed my letter in R&T! It still looks fantastic all these years later, so I think I was right.

From what I understand the ECU is a trouble spot for the EB110 as nobody repairs them and VW never kept the schematics from that period. I suspect Dauer might be able to repair them as he continued to build them until 10+ years ago from spare parts. Do service manuals even exist for the EB110?

Presumably only the SS models can be imported into the US, or is it only the SS that were originally delivered to the US that are allowed here until the 25 years have passed to comply with DOT import rules?

What are the other issues with the EB110?

I think they are only allowed in the us under show/display law which limits them to 5000 miles a year iirc.

 

The March 9, 2011 publication from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of cars approved for importation into the U.S. under the "Show or Display" exemption lists the "Bugatti EB110 1992-1995". There is no mention of an "SS" or any other variant. Cars imported under Show or Display are limited to 2,500 miles per year. However, I was told by someone intimately involved in Show or Display that the Feds don't have the resources to check mileages, so the limitation is illusory. Note that cars imported under Show or Display are exempt only from U.S. DOT safety regulations. They must still comply with U.S. EPA emissions regulations unless they are 21 years old or older by model year. So, 1992-1993 EB110s are home free from both DOT and EPA requirements as of 2014. It will be a few more years before all of the EB110s become exempt from emissions. I imported a Porsche 959 under Show or Display. As the 959 was already approved by NHTSA for Show or Display, it was a simple matter of completing a form and waiting for NHTSA to approve it--and it was free! You have to have the NHTSA OK before the car hits the U.S. or it will wind up stuck in a Customs impound warehouse on your nickel.
