And to a few I'll say I told you so. He was good at Lotus because he was trying to prove something, now he is back in the game ... completely demotivated ... The team need to threaten to remove the ice cream machine or something

It is high time the FIA fine Lotus for unsafe release if Maldonado is allowed to race as any release of Maldonado constitutes an unsafe release!

Ferrari paid him to leave. That says volumes about his disposability.

The article mentioned that Maldonado ignored waved yellows and hit the marshall. So probably the marshall was on track doing his job of clearing up a previous accident when Maldonado ploughed into him. Clearly he hadn't learnt what the yellow flag means ...

That made me laugh ... although didn't this happen once? I remember someone - maybe Fisichella? - taking the door off the SC or Medical Car

You are all assuming Maldonado doesn't crash in practice and get banned before the race even starts! I'm going for Perez, Monaco gets him all hot and bothered and the Mclarens should at least have the speed to hit something in Monaco if nowhere else

It could be anyone given this data below - Jenson Button: new track surface will change Monaco for F1 drivers - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com

Jenson Button has predicted that major track resurfacing in Monte Carlo is going to make life extra hard for Formula 1 drivers at this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

A number of the sport's leading stars have already suggested that the harder tyres and increased torque of 2014's cars will make F1's blue-riband event tougher than usual.

But Button says fresh complications are also going to be caused by newly laid asphalt that has been put down from the exit of Casino corner until the start of the tunnel.

He reckons that F1 could face a repeat of the headaches it faced in the United States during Austin's inaugural race in 2012 when the new surface provided almost no grip and caused trouble for the entire grid.

"Out of Massenet, from there all the way through the tunnel, it has new asphalt - which we think is probably quite similar to Austin in the first year," explained Button.

"It is going to be very, very low grip. That will be a big issue for everyone to get the tyres working.

"The soft tyre is going to be tough for everyone to get working - especially the fronts. But the super-soft will be good."

True, sauber? I really don't keep pace with the lower teams and drivers, only really care about Ferrari!

Perez is still a prediction, and same goes for their car

Ignored the double waved yellows and barely lifted.
Also paid him 20 million a year to come back again. Suppose that doesn't tell you volumes of **** though.
Heidfelt in Brazil. I think 2001. Took the door completely off the medical car. Driver of the medical car was lucky he didn't step out yet!

Have a look..either the marshals didn't warn him, ie. Alonso Brazil 2003, or he was just plain ignorant...

Is he? Hahaha, once they fall out of contention at the top teams, I only go by a rather poor memory..... If he was at Mercedes with chilton I'd remember! Haha. Oh no, that's rosberg.

All set for a merc 1-2 then, guessing red bull third, Ferrari and red bull to share fourth to sixth assuming kimi gets some practice and a decent slot in qualy. I wonder if nico will best hambone this weekend, hope so, let's face it, hoping for Ferrari to win is ridiculous, better to hope they can manage third or fourth and be realistic. If the mercs crash, then there might be a race of sorts on

The flags had been out for ages at this point, and he ignored the yellow flag light in his car too. I presume his radio didn't work.

    *** that's for both situations; Alonso's and Maldonado's.

Funniest bit about the Loldonado crash: the commentator says that he's already known for crashing. I honestly wonder when his superlicense will finally get revoked. He has NO place in F1. Perhaps they're waiting for him to hit another marshal or a driver that just got out of his car? But by then it'll be too late.

With the new tarmac I wonder if the Ferrari's can do decent in quali, i.e. heating their tires. On a ~5 lap stint they might have heated the tires up sufficiently but traffic, fuel weight etc will all factor in as well...

Well... after a certain level of history... you're just not going to get the benefit of the doubt.

I'm actually a bit nervous about this race. The cars have no downforce and are all over the place. How many times have we seen the car just just break loose in an instant? There's zero room for those sorts of errors on this track. I still think these guys are still trying to get a handle on the cars. I'm betting there are going to be several accidents.

Hopefully Pastor runs hits something on the warm up lap so he's not there to endanger everyone during what I think is already going to be a dangerous race. I'm not one of the guys who likes to see the thrill of a wreck. I'm a bit nervous about this Sunday. I hope my totally wrong.

Headline from the race: Maldonado hit a tree.

Fan: But... But... There are no trees on the circuit

    Yes. Yes I know.
