History has been much more kind to the 288 GTO than Aston Martin Zagato. This Zagato is practically invisible any more; though much more rare by comparing the numbers built.

The 288 is a design masterpiece.

The car in the picture above is an interesting anomaly.

When it came out, I really liked the Zagato, and I still do, but it is certainly not as 'special' anymore, as much of the then unusual lines and features in the design became mainstream and normal. I was desensitized. Today I'd much rather have a Volante from that era.

As far as the comparison with the 288 goes: apples and pears.
The 288 was built in a limited number, limited by Ferrari, everybody wanted one and all liked it.
The Zagato was built in limited numbers, dictated by the market, it found a lot of publicity but not much acceptance right from the start.

That, apart from them being complete opposites in real term characteristics. The only thing they had in common was that they were both expensive to buy.

    Best,

    Jack.

While I was always an admirer of the styling, it wasn't brutal enough. It pales in comparison to the 90's era V8 Vantage models, especially the Virage with those big dished rims.
