Second that. Not sure why the hate. Even tho I am not a fan, I am still capable of some degree of respect for the car. Some seem to treat it as a transgression to their ego.
I'm sure the Huracan would win every performance test, but different cars for different things. I'm not quite sold on the Huracan exterior look, but I think it will be a great car for the street. AWD and the N/A V10 should be plenty entertaining on everyday roads where extracting every ounce of "feel" isn't as important. The old LP570 cars were great fun to drive around town. The 458 is absolutely unbeatable for fun on the right section of twisting tarmac but it borders on tedious for casual driving, IMO.
I was under the impression that 458 is easier to live with around town compared to the clunky automated manual of the Gallardos.
The getrag DCT is definitely much smoother. I suppose the point I was trying to make is that the 458 really shines on a great road where you can wring out the RPMs and take advantage of the seamless gear changes from corner to corner. The LP5XX is no comparison in that situation (while certainly no slouch), but it is more of an event going from one stoplight to the next IMO. A Performante or Superleggera never lets you forget you're driving a ludicrous sports car. Huracan may have lost some of that with the new DCT.
Well lets be honest if this Huracan isn't any better than the 458 its going to really struggle against the 458 replacement, unless Lamborghini decides that car is going to have a much shorter life span than the Gallardo.
Well they have started work on a twin turbo V8 engine which will be introduced during its life cycle at some point and a carbon tub body probably much later. But I agree that based on reviews so far if it has arguably caught up with the 458 it will struggle against the replacement.
As they say, to each their own. That odd front, blinged emblem, and odd lights/louvers are not beautiful Ferrari designs. Kind of like the f430 rear lights were not universally loved. The rear treatment of the huracan is not the best either. I think only the 360 got the whole car right, far more so than the Italian and especial.
BTW, which is the most active lamborghini discussion forum? I have come across lambo talk but that is not very happening. Or perhaps the huracan section is slow bcoz no one has one yet.
In this case (based on reviews only) the car that just came out is no more advanced or better than the five year old car. It is therefore only now that the two are comparable. Fittingly so in my neck of the woods the Huracan price new is almost identical to that of the Italia. The Gallardos were noticeably cheaper than the Italia. Very predictably the 458 T will be noticeably more expensive than the Huracan and no comparison in performance and technology to the latter.
458dreamer, how did you come to that conclusion? It has the latest DCT, better CCB brakes, cutting edge hybrid CF/aluminum chassis, more power than the old car, more tq available from 1000 rpm, less weight, latest haldex AWD with the ability to put 100% of the power to the rear, and most certainly the latest mag suspension. Regardless of how it feels, I'd bet money on it easily besting the 458. You also might be overestimating what the 458 replacement will be. Performance has increased so much that it's not the easy to make a car that much better. The difference between a $1.5M car and a $300K car below 100mph isn't even that significant anymore. Unless the 458 replacement loses a TON of weight, performance might not make the jump you think.
I came to that conclusion because based on the handful of video reviews and articles I have come across, the journalists naturally reference it to the 458 but no one tries to hint that it is actually better or preferable to the 458. That would by no means be a crime, calling a just released car better than a 5 yr old one, but no one seems to feel that. The updated technology you mention no doubt upgrades it dramatically over the old school Gallardo (single clutch & all), but it doesn't better the 458. I doubt it will do faster lap times either. Having said that I believe there is a market for the lambo for those wanting something different from a ferrari looks and handling wise. I would not rule out purchasing one. My prediction 458 T will have 670 hp (twin turbo v8) and be much faster than even the avantador.
I think normal 458 is more beautiful. The Speciale looks a bit like too much body kits. It's like Novitec 458, or Hamann 458. In real life, it's like an over-make-up woman. I prefer her natural beauty. But this is just my opinion. The Speciale's interior look better, though.
None of them have done any objective testing, so how would they know? It doesn't have to be called better or feel berrer for it to actual be superior. No one would call a GTR or Z06 better than a 458, but both have proven to be for a while now. Huracan may or may not feel better than a 458, but it's very likely to be higher performance. Heck, you may find that the 458 replacement doesn't feel any better than the 458 either. My guess is the 458 replacement, if turbo, will have a modest HP bump but a more significant torque bump. My guess is 630hp and 475 tq, or around there. Maybe 500 tq. That's all it needs to be substantially quicker than a Speciale and competitive with others in a straight line.
When was the last time a Ferrari didn't make a substantial performance jump over its predecessor? I am guesstimating around 660 hp for the new 458, some 55 more than the Speciale. That is a similar bump to what the 458 had over the Scuderia. It has to outperform the 650s after all but stay below the F12. Sound and power delivery though are the sticky topics with turbos...
Noone, no way the 458 replacement is going to have less torque then the Cali so assume the new 458 torque peak will be greater then 557 lb ft.
In the pictures of the Speciale I thought the front end was terrible. In person, it's not just much better, it actually looks really, really good IMO. Speciale is an amazing looking car from every angle.
Most members could never appreciate the more aggressive design and remarkable features of the Speciale. We are indeed a limited breed.
