Dear Gentlemen and Gentlewomen, I have now completed all of the major to do jobs on
Kato the Mondial after just over 1 year of his rolling restoration. From now on I think it should be just be maintenance I hope.
So for this reason I thought it might be an idea to get to know the Ferrari/Bosch K Jetronic
Fuel Injection System a bit more intimately. To date my car appears to be running really well but being a multi carburettor man I thought I'd better log my Jetronics behaviour in an effort to better understand how it works in detail and how to properly test it.
In this short series of videos I don't proclaim to know fully how the system works, it's more a path of discovery in which by the end I would like to actually make a 'How to Set Up...' video on the K Jetronic for our Ferraris. This I aim to do using all the correct guages and test equipment but also I hope find a way for those who don't have this equipment.
So welcome folks to the first in the K Jetronic voyage of disovery videos, your input and ideas are most welcome, as indeed are your comments when or if I get it wrong.
    Regards, Bell.

Many kudos on your Scientific Method! And your video is in my archive.

I have but one addition. The mixture screw upon which you sprayed WD-4 is actually the access cover to the hex screw below which is perhaps 5,6 or 7 mm. Last year I added 1/8 clockwise turn on it to make sure the car was not running lean. Which I had some reason to believe - lean surge on light throttle acceleration for instance. I did not notice much difference but one should never do it when the engine is running because it is vibrating for one reason or another. In addition, it was difficult for me to know when the hex was or was not seated.

I also noticed your car has a 'timing advance' signature in that the first revolution of the starter slows down cranking. This leads me to believe my car might benefit from increased timing. Do these cars have a timing advance feature? My experience with cars of this era is they have timing sensor and timing is not adjustable.

You have done a lot of work with good documentation. Do you have a URL under which your efforts have been accumulated? Keep up the excellent work. I have benefitted greatly from your exploration of K-Jet.

I fear you may have created a monster for the FerrariChat experts.

Sometimes, people who think they know it all, really upset those who do.

Looks like you had fun and learned a lot.

That is what enjoying your passion is all about.

Be not discouraged. Those who know everything are not readily available to the rest of us. I tried with many posts and even telephone calls to find out how the brake light switch was mounted. My fear was the device was mounted through a simple hole in the mounting bracket and fixed by a back lock nut. Which would have been catastrophic had it dropped down if I backed out the switch.

Eventually I gritted my teeth and backed it out. It had no backing lock nut. It was simply threaded through the hole itself. Entire process could be safely done with your own fingers.

Nice! :) My milestone to be finished is way after the summer or even after upcoming winter! Nice work Bell and it has been said already before.. It is always nice to look at your videos! Cheers!

For the auxiliary valve on the tank I think at the time it was the only way to have the idling going up in RPM after the cold starting for a mechanical fuel injection system. Kind of a automatic choke, which I am afraid we sometimes need in Europe.

Hi Guys :) Well hopefully once I get my pressure test gear I'll be able to produce some kind of a 'Resource Injection Check Video' that can be constantly re edited 'like Wikipedia' until we have a definitive reliable version.
What pressure test gear would you guys suggest?...MvT

Ha ha Rapalyea, that mixture screw yes I must admit that after making the video and editibg it I did think that it maybe was some kind of anti tamper dust cover, so thankyou for that.
And yes the advance on my start up I sometimes get that, it hits all the advance markers when it is running, the engine does run with a non adjustable advance. I can measure if it will help you to find out what's happening on yours.

    All the best, Bell

Though one Bell! there are so many! I don't have a fuel system pressure kit (yet). Borrowed one at the time from a friend and discovered that the pressure was dropping after shutting the engine down. It appeared to be the WUR. I rebuild the WUR and flipped the vavle inside as it was worn on the side were it should be closing. Warm starts are now better, but still not optimal. I am still deciding if I should get a fuel system pressure kit as borrowing one is such a hassle.

If I would get one then I have made my choice already on this one. It seems to be the complete kit for the Jetronic:
CTA3420 - Fuel Injection Pressure Tester (Bosch K Jetronic C.I.S.)

I have bought a rebuild kit for the fuel distributer, which is on my list to be rebuild after all the necessities are done :)
