All these cars should be original, but what do we see here? I'll tell you tomorrow as the next day it became clear why this modern stuff was put on! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thank you for sending the present, back to the past - - and for bringing the past, into the present. Every shot was a gem !! Ciao, Hank
This is how it feels to walk into this city just hours before the race is starting. (Don't mind the title...) [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOIdYFMvax4]Mille Miglia Brescia Italy - YouTube[/ame]
What a great way to start this beautiful day: coffee & Youtube on the terrace in the sun. All those Mercedesi, Ferrari, Bugatti and Jaguari on the side: my kingdom for a Fiat Ottovu (in any bodyform that is). MvT, you should be payed by the organisation for such an overwhelming advertising campaign. I'm speeding up the wrenching pace, to make the Mondi bulletproof for next years edition!
More then welcome! lol well, if they already give a starting position I would be more then happy I say let's drive it one time in the future for real! ------------------------------------ Evening starts to fall in and the rally has already started! We had our fair share of pizzas at the restaurant we parked at and all of a sudden the guys I'm with start to get excited! then the table gets quiet! Oh yes... we hear roars! The first Mille Miglia cars pass the restaurant were we are at! We pay the bill and get outside! I am new to this business and I just follow the folks I am with. Some of them go every year and one person was a Co-Driver in a F40 during the Tribute really 2012 ...they know where to carspot!! The quiet roundabout turned into a fest of bypassing cultural heritage. and police men and women are controling the traffic as best as they can! (remember this Rally is held on the public road) F40 - 2012 tribute rally: http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6628/img4707qe.jpg http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/2243/img6342t.jpg 90min later it is our time... to drive up within the rally You guys told me but I thought it was a joke. It certainly wasn't. It occurred to me that we parked in the zone of the really. We started our cars and one by one we left the parking lot. I can only say this.. Italian have a passion for Ferrari! It is in their blood! In a movie I already posted earlier at 4min 50sec you can see the crowed: (After that my GoPro batterly life was to an end) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv6PbT-4ba0 The rest you can see here from someone I was with: Mille Miglia 2014 - De start - YouTube At Sirmione checkpoint on the roundabout we were filtered out and we parked our cars and merged up in the crowed to look at the bypassing Rally Since this is a checkpoint it creates a traffic jam. Remember the modern fans on the old 1930 cars? This is the only modern piece of stuff they can add for improvement on the car so that they do not overheat standing in before the checkpoints. For the rest it is up to the old technology if the make it to the finish! What a day again. Can it get any better? Yes it can Tomorrow Ferrari factory visit! At 09:00am we are expected at Ferrari for a factory visit and this is the day I have waited for! . Arriving at 09:00 sharp we reported at the desk. The first question "are you with cars?" Obviously our answer was yes. There was immidiately stress as they were not informed about that. The Italians do it their way to arrange things and talk loudly to colleagues and make huge gestures. With high exception we were allowed to park in front of the reception. How neat is that! But just wait until we mentioned there were still 5 other Ferraris coming. Ohh Lord that was a million dollar/euro expression on their faces. Again the whole show started to arrange parking places. Ah yes.., from time to time they expressed not to take pictures. Once in the hospitality room the manager did his talk and mentioned again that we were not allowed to take pictures behind the gate and in the factory. No pictures of the inside chaps so we need to do it only with front gate pictures. We have seen the engine build, build up of painted chassis', the marriage (Engine and chassis comes together), and the inspection. This was all the 8 cylinder cars on the ground floor. Then we went to the 1st floor of the 12 cylinder cars, which we passed and walked on the the interrior department. From there we went on the shuttle but again to go to Ferrari corse clienti and Formula 1 cars maintenance. After that our tour was finish and we got a Factory passport, could keep the ferrari headset earplugs and a pass to have 20% at the Ferrari store together with free access to the Ferrari museum. If you are in the oppertunity to have a factory visit... DO IT I will for sure go again when I get the chance. Yep, You can say that again! Some pic from the Ferrari museum. My favorite was the custom Dino 308 GT4 N.A.R.T. and the white Dino 346 GTS Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The next day all good trips have an ending and so the new ferraris went home by train. it was about time as the 456 GT had cooling problems and was losing liqued fast! (at home we heard it was a hose of of the heating radiator.) The oldies... they stayed behind.. for yet another 2 days! We went to the Enzo museum in Modena where yet another set of the most beautiful Ferraris were to be admired. Also Enzo's elderly house with the huge shed, which he sold when he was 20 to buy his first race car. Around 13:00pm I met our Italian friend Carlo (aka feiss on this forum) at the parking lot we talked about the Mille Miglia and people we knew who were driving it. Handed over his indicator lens that I took with me for him and next year we probably will meet again. In the late afternoon we will go back to Brescia again to look at the finish of the Mille Miglia. I find it very cool as well! And I do have highres photos Every (older) ferrari has passed this gate. So everyone's Mondial was right there at a certain point
We arrived in Brecia and parked our cars at our favorite parking place and walked into town. Some cars were already finishing and I bumped into our Dutch Mercedes friends, who are driving the Rally with a Pruna Mercedes 180D of 1955 who I met on the roundabout two evenings before. They barely made it to the finish with only the 3rd gear left. I decided to stop filming as they were telling and showing pictures that an terrible accident had happened infront of them with a Mercedes 300SL and a BMW 1 serie. At that moment they were not sure if someone walked away from it. As i mentioned before this Rally is hold on the public road and a lot of minor accidents happens, mainly car damage, but I haven't seen an accident like this before and only heard it from the very past of a Ferrari crash taking the lives of 12 people in 1957. The Mille Miglia was abandoned in 1958. Later we heard that everyone luckily walked away with minor concussions. Will post later some vids of the finish! The day is almost ending and tomorrow we will be heading off to the Black Forrest in Germany (Most know it as Baden Baden) But before leaving we came across this very nice Dino GT with creme interior, a rarity! Some min later their Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Touring of 1950 arrived at the spot just having finished the race. Now that I call a nice ending of the last day in Italy Some cars that have passed the finish and still do a round of honour. The waterpump belt of the yellow 308 had some nasty cuts and decided to look for a dealer to get a new one. Saturday... all is closed and tried a specialist still but no luck either. Being closed is the favorite thing to do on Saturday in Italy! At the Enzo Ferrari museum there was some kind of Alfa Romeo exhibition of new exotic Alfa Romeos. There was also an old Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Freccia Oro of 1948, which we called the Mob car! Now I call that a car to do a bank job in the 50ties and drive of fast! what a car! it is on my list of wanna haves. Futher we see Alfa Romeos 4c and 8c (no C6 to be found) Extraordinary enough a new California T was shown as well! Inside a Ferrari 400 type that never got the permission from Enzo to be build. I think he was right on that one in my opinion! Around the corner of the parkinglot is the Maserati factory located. That one is to be visited a next time! Maybe the appeal is there if I was a senator (derived from the [Latin] word senātus (senate), which comes from senex, "old man". Just saying Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great photos Tijn, keep 'm coming. Europe has the most beautiful scenery for this kind of road trip. Amazing cars, cities, and people along the way.
So the next day the intention is to drive back through Swiss and ovenight in Germans somewhere in the black forrest, but not before we drove around the Garda lake in Italy No music, just the sound of the engines, wind and crowed on the street.
