I really am...It gives me such a different perspective. My father was a laborer that worked for Dow. He died when I was13, my mother had passed a few years earlier. People helped me out with places to stay until I was 17. Then I had to go it alone. Joined the Marines at 19, spent 8 years traveling. Then after I got out and worked any job I could, block work, cement work, carpentry in the hot Florida sun. I even worked bailing hay when I moved back to Michigan.
I bought my first business for $30,000 on a land contract with nothing down. I borrowed $50 for the till and wrote over $30,000 in business the first month. I'm not rich now but we do well.
You can not imagine how it feels to drive my 355 Spyder on nice summer day. I have always loved Ferraris and just a glimpse of one made my day. Sometimes I see construction guys on lunch sitting on the tail gate of a truck like I did and when I drive by it reminds me how lucky I am.
I know most people won't ever sit in a car like mine let alone have one they can go drive 500 miles on a whim.
I have an extremely beautiful wife with a sexy Ukrainian accent. She's the sweetest girl I have ever met. She never asks for anything other than I once in awhile if I would bring her coffee in the morning. She prefers dinner at home over a restaurant.
We took the Ferrari to lunch twice last week and when we're out I know most people will never roll up in a car like ours or spend a day with a woman like her.
I am not envious of anyone. I'm not. I know a lot of guys on here have some awesome cars,no doubt. But I am sure no one on here can appreciate driving their car more than me, they might equal it but cant surpass my attitude or gratitude.
I feel for myself if I grew up in a wealthy family or got dropped off at school everyday in a Mercedes or could take dads 911 to prom I wouldn't or maybe couldnt feel this way. Every time I see someone on the street with mental health problems or other issues....I'm like wow am I lucky. Just pure lucky. Just washing my Ferrari makes me feel amazing and grateful. Anyone else feel this way when they go for a drive?.....sorry about the long boring post

The 355 is like 50-60k, sorry to burst your delusional bubble but anyone with a half decent job can afford that in the US, especially on payments. I'm willing to bet those construction workers sitting on the tail gate, drove trucks worth more.

Yup.. I have been asked many times "how do you afford such a car?". I ask them the same question about their brand new fully loaded lexus SUV.

Could this come off sounding any more elitist? So if I get this right, unless you drive a 458 another persons Ferrari isn't good enough? I think you missed the whole point of his post. There are plenty of people out there who could financially wipe their ass with the check used to purchase a 458. Some of those people never worked a day in their life for the honor to do so.

I have a 100 times more respect for someone who can actually tell me something about the car and history of the company and not just a zero to 60 time. Someone who works hard to get the things in life they are passionate about. That goes for any Ferrari, the Mondial I have or the 63 GTO that most of us will never even be able to see in person. In the end it's about the car, not just the cost.

    Shootfighter, I understand,

I had a junker car in high school, but could not afford the basic insurance to drive it. It just stayed parked. Now I own a Testarossa and 2 classic motorcycles and 2 hot rods. Yea you can say it is not worth anymore than a fancy pickup truck. but IMHO people don't have the same type of passion for there common pickup truck than a Ferrari.

Yeah, just about anyone can buy a Ferrari but the cost of ownership to include proper service and maintenance is something that few can truly afford.

@ Zaius, You didnt burst my bubble...you can't. I should have known there would be a few pretentious drama queens that have had everything their parents could buy them...except a personality taking a shot. Your right It's a $60,000 car and I love it. I love washing it,working on it,driving it. It must suck having someone like me in your elite club. I bet it punches you right in the self esteem and that hurts.. You of course missed my point.
Heres the difference between you and me... I fought Muay Thai professionally in Thailand for 5 years. I was the first foreigner to hold two championship belts in two different weight classes at the same time. Thats a very elite club...I have taught seminars all over the world. Europe, Australia, Costa Rica, United states.. most of the people that attend are just average people that loved the sport. Some couldnt throw a punch without almost falling down. Some had good armature records with big gloves, shin pads, no use of elbows... I was happy to see them all. The good the bad the ugly. Glad to see someone love my sport so much... Like I said I'm glad I grew up the way I did. you most likely still wont get the point.

I "get" what you're trying to say..

But in my reading it sounded more like "I have a serious chip on my shoulder". Congrats on your success in life. We've all faced adversity to get where we are... and that does make our lives interesting. FYI I've met some of those rich pampered kids that are excellent people, that I respect and are diametrically the opposite of what you portray.

Youve never been to the midwest i take it? I swear some kids were as passionate about trucks as are about ferraris though i think for many that is because a ferrari was thought to be beyond reach.

Really I was just trying to express how grateful I am. No chip. And I understand what your saying for sure . I met a drop dead gorgeous Russian American girl that graduated from Harvard. We drive across Europe together staying at her friends house. We stayed in a huge house over looking the med in the south of France. One morning I got up there was a Ferrari California in the garage. Everyone was so nice. Except her when I broke up with her because I wanted to go back to Thailand instead of be her house husband in Moscow. No chip. I just realize how lucky I am.

IMO.... This reply right here is the reason you started this thread.
It is your ulterior motive for bragging about yourself .
Your resentment of people in better financial straights is quite apparent.
It is a poor topic to start , and even poorer to try to finish.
I would have moderator close thread before we have a bloodbath

What, pointing out to you that the car you adore may be no more valuable than the pickups that the hoi polloi drive makes the critic a "pretentious drama queen?"

Look, I "get" your point about enjoying the spoils of success, but your comment about drama queens made me question your agenda.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong...If you will look I stated how grateful I was and happy I am to own such a car. Someone with a 458 called me out saying my car wasn't that great and I lived in a delusional bubble for thinking so... I'm a man...a guys guy. If your going to take a shot at me from any angle I will respond. I will never apologize for being a stand up guy. If you knew me or talked to people who know me you would understand. I am grateful for my life. Thats my point. even if I dont drive an Enzo...just my cheap cool as hell to me 355 spyder

I love the original post, congrats to you for your happiness. I think it was a heart felt appreciation of the car, his wife, and life. I really enjoyed the story and actually was disappointed when it ended!

I believe he was only conveying this appreciation, and not in any way trying to belittle anyone, rich or poor. It did not appear to me anyone should have been offended, but sometimes we misunderstand written statements without the ability to express emotion.

Enjoy your car and those blessings you already appreciate.

I know people that grew up poor and I know people that have grown up with extreme wealth and I can tell you it's absolutely not how much money you are raised with but has everything to do with your own personality and what kind of person you want to be and the wisdom and guidance adults in your life impart with you growing up. I am a true believer that everyone has a right to either succeed or fail in life.

I have heard similar ramblings from poor soul years back. He was jaded and resented anyone that owned their own home or car or even if your parents owned a house. He was very certain that he was the only person in the world that ever worked for what he had. He viewed it as some sort of badge of honour and made sure to tell any who would listen. He did however squander a ton of money on cars while others around him made wiser decisions with their money like buying homes.
