Another article on the next generation 458. Get ready for the turbocharged Ferrari 458 - BBC Top Gear This article is more definitive that next generation 458 will be turbocharged, with displacement closer to 4 liters. Sounds like facts were confirmed by Amedeo Felisa.
If it is.....the 458 Speciale and possibly the 458 Speciale "Spider" are the cars to have right now I guess. They will probably keep their prices very good as the last NA V8's
The drumbeat is deafening, the next gen 458 will have a turbo engine, I think we can all agree on that. I assume it will be a model year 2016 car, that starts production in the summer of 2015. If Ferrari is going to introduce a turbo charged engine, they had better deliver the most technically advanced version. I would love to see them take a page from the dominant 2014 Mercedes F1 team and package the turbine and air compressor at either end of the engine. This "trick turbo layout" reduces turbo lag because the air is not travelling through as much pipework, and provides an additional benefit in that the air entering the combustion chamber is cooler, giving higher horsepower.
Wonder what that means for resale value of the 2015 458 (non Speciale) as a last NA engine model? I just ordered a 2015 so not sure what to make of this.
The successor will definitely look good, drive better, and perform much faster. Now the question is : How's the sound??? If it sounds very good, screaming louder or at least the same with 458, then business as usual. But if it sounds like 2013's F1 to 2014's, then the first thing that will happen is, all used Ferrari's price with NA engine will sky rocket, especially 458 and Speciale. Some models like 360 CS and 599 GTO will be worshipped. And the waiting time for V12 will be 4-5 years, because that will be the only new Ferrari with NA.
Not going to happen. Just like people said the last 6-speed manual!, only to see 430 prices continue to drop as usual, along with 430S prices. And even though the sound gets worse with each model 360CS -> 430S -> 458S, the new cars still sell better than ever. They will have made 10K+ 458s by the time the next one comes out, and contrary to what he forums would have you believe about enthusiast owners, the majority of sales go to people who just want the new Ferrari and are always happy with it. There aren't nearly enough enthusiast buyers to drive the price of regular NA Ferraris up. 458 sales are going down the same road as 430 and 360, and F12 the same way as 599 and 575 etc.
It's inevitable at this point. I am sure the new 458 would be great. Is it just an engine change, or is there significant body changes to be made as well?
458 prices are now almost at the same level of Scuderia here in Europe...and all agree they will keep going down like all modern Ferrari. Too many cars produced...Ferrari customers Always want the newest model putting more and more used cars on teh market and pushing prices down.
Supercharger rob horsepower before they make any additional power Also you can't cool the air after a supercharger like you can a turbo without a lot of extra piping in tight quarters. And turbos can run higher boost.
I agree. With Ferrari's the best thing to do is just buy in, drive and enjoy the ride while you have it. The next thing will always be better and whatever you have will drop. Depreciation is just payment for driving pleasure.
I think it's funny to hear the pissing and moaning about turbos on Ferraris and how turbos will degrade the experience, sound, yadda yadda yadda..... I guess the same could be said for the F40.....those damn turbos get in the way of the "experience" I highly doubt the NA V8s that are out now will hold any value when the turbo V8s start rolling out. Maybe in 20 years the 458 will be considered the last of the NA V8s and will recoup some value. A 458-like car with a turbo? Holy hell that will be an animal. Fast forward to the next evolution after La Ferrari....a turbo charged monster akin to the F40. Beware, the future is approaching. Get out now if you don't like what you see.
You are "exhibit A" of why so much has been written about nothing. The fact is, life goes on and no matter what any of us want to believe, Ferrari will keep selling cars and prices will do what they always do, period, end of sentence. Best
