Ah ok, got you! I rubbed them down, used a wire brush and a wire wheel in places. Cleaned everything off with brake cleaner, then gave them a few coats of Wurth Automotive silver aluminium paint. I done all this while on the car, without removing the hubs - its not 100% perfect refurb, but every area that is visual through the wheel is looking very sharp.
Hi, I hired a carpet cleaner yesterday to do the carpets in the house, while i had the machine i done the main carpets that are still in the car. They came up very nice, no damage or wear, just a little colour fading can be seen where the original colour is protected behind the ecu covers, but once the leather trim is refitted this will not be noticeable. Exact same carpets on mine. I have a 1995 M2.7 GTS...blue swaters and ivory. Put this on your list if i can suggest.... Check or just replace the plastic pipe, 2 gaskets and clamps that connects the fuel filler neck to the fuel tank...there has been a fire in the states recently due to this plastic pipe being porous, cracked or split. I do not fill mine up to the brim...do not want fuel in that little bit of pipe..just in case..it sits right close to the manifold...heat and fuel not a recipe for happy days. Keep the photos coming. How's your headlining?
Hi, I checked out the fuel filler pipes. I gave them a clean and a very close inspection, they look to be in perfect condition, with no damage or fuel odour around them. I suspect they have been changed in the past. One thing i did notice, the large pipe is very close to touching the feeder pipe for the rad. I was not happy with this, my fear being vibration or movement could rub a hole in the pipe. Just for a little extra protection i fitted a sleeve around the fuel pipe using a length of large radiator hose and two tie pulls - picture below. (Still think i will fit a fire extinguisher for peace of mind!) The headlining - i have posted a picture, it a beauty. A factor option in Cream Leather: D5 Ceiling in Cream Leather 3997 I have not cleaned it yet, but given the car has never been smoked in, a gentle clean with Saddle soap will bring it up like new. And a new battery about to be fitted before i finish off the arches and put the wheels back on. cheers Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thats the last of the brakes done! Rear brakes all rebuilt - new disks, pads, hand-brake shoes, hand-brake cables - the lot. All cleaned, adjusted and back together. The car is now back on its feet and i can get on with a few more of the cosmetic jobs! Hi, I managed to buy a good replacement electric air pump. It was very clean when it arrived, but i had half an hour spare so i washed out the filters, repainted the brackets, and replaced the screws and nuts - looks like new now! And blows a strong stream of air, with a very quiet motor. cheers Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Super work Mark. How's the large bracket to which the air pump and solenoid switches mount? Bet you will clean that up! May i suggest a Capristo bypass valve from Germany?
That was me with the 355 fire in the States, and I was lucky enough to spot it and pull over in time before it touched the timing belt covers. Not a mark! If I were you I would definitely change that fuel-filler hose and all associated hose clamps/gaskets as it seems like that was the cause of the fire at this point, and mine looked like new until things went awry. Absolutely be sure to put a Halon or similar extinguisher in your car, at least 2 pound size, just not the dry-chemical variety, very corrosive to aluminum and electrics. It would be such a shame to lose all your hard work because of something as simple as not having a fire extinguisher in your car. I'm just lucky the PO of my car had done it, because I probably wouldn't have on my own. Your car is amazing by the way!!
Hi, yes I will definitely be fitting a fire extinguisher, i may even fit a plumbed in system similar to what i have in my rally car. Very happy you and your car are ok! all the best, Mark Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi, I will get round to that shortly when i refit the pump, but it looks pretty good, just 17 years of road dirt and grim, but no corrosion. The car had a new valve fitted when Verdi fitted the Capristo exhaust for the previous owner, she has only done a few thousand miles since. cheers Mark
Problem.... Halon is banned in Europe....banned for years now. Do you know of an alternative that won't do any harm?
Hey Mark have you gone into hiding? Also is that a mark 1 escort rally car? I'm getting very jealous and will need to pay you a visit next time I'm in the uk!!
Got my floor mats today Mark exactly the same as yours. Fantastic fit and extremely well made! I also purchased a used Mille Miglia f1 exhaust and carbon fibre door sills and I'm going to do a buttress repair over the next couple of weeks. Guess I have the tinkering bug after reading this thread!!
hi; great job. I love the seats. I have a 1995 F355 Spider and my seats are getting a little tired. where your seats re-upholstered or brand new. if new, who was the supplier? Tom
Hi, just a one off set i found in storage for the last 17 years, taken out of a car when nearly new, as it was getting turned into a race car. Totally original, just cleaned very well, with a tiny amount of re-connalising to remove some storage marks. cheers Mark
