Would be awesome if the event highlights could be posted on YouTube. I did do a search and failed to find anything from last year on YouiTube. It ceratainly is possible that I just missed it. Just Sayin! Ciao, George
Hi Bob, Yes, I know its this weekend, I won't be there. Last year's Rides to Remember appears to have not been YouTubed. Hopefully this year, [Rides 2 Remember 2014] will make its way to YouTube. Ciao, George
OOPS...sorry George. (Kind of interesting that in all the years there is minimal TV coverage of it either).
Another great event this year, thanks to FOA amd AMP for putting this on for the kids. Nice to see everyone today. Another great Rides To Remember! Thanks to all the volunteers who put this together every year. I don't know who has more fun the kids or the drivers but everyone had a great time.
I would be remiss if I also didn't give a big THANK YOU to all the sponsors as well. Without them this event wouldn't happen. Ferrari Maserati of Atlanta Atlanta Auto Salon Atlanta Motorsports Park Atlanta Protective Films Cartunes of Atlanta Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Digital Fridge Magnum Collision Repair Center Mittie's Tea Room Cafe Morrison Healthcare Ninja Multimedia Onsite Shine Storage Post Tin Roof Kitchen The Partnership Thank you all for your contribution to a great event. It was also great to see so many F-chat members kaamacat, Sunburn, Andy308, Gaterarri, Dr. Tommy Cosgrove, Lanikai, and I am sure several others I missed.
I knew it was going to be an interesting day when I pulled into a gas station on Mansell Road and encountered a Mercedes SLR McLaren about to leave! I didn't get a chance to ask the driver if he was going my way, but as you can see, he was. When I arrived at about 8:15, I found that most of the cars had already arrived, and the line snaked through Ferrari of Atlanta's new parking area. The two buses for the kids were parked right in front of the Maserati showroom. After checking in and grabbing a little breakfast, I went outside and photographed some of the more interesting vehicles in line. There was also a camera crew from WSB-TV interviewing kids, and it happened that they were doing so right in front of my 328! So my car might be on the 11:00 news. An interesting duo were two electric sedans, a Tesla and a Fisker, nose to tail. The drive to Dawsonville turned out to be more interesting than expected as well, due to a lack of police along Old Milton Parkway resulting in the single caravan breaking up into smaller groups due to red lights. As a result, some of us had to go much faster on GA-400 than expected in order to catch up, and I was glad the kids weren't riding up there with us. I was following either the Ford GT or the Mercedes SLR McLaren most of the way up there; at that moment I wished that I had had someone riding shotgun taking photos or video! Eventually we did catch up and make our way over to the track. A veritable field full of exotics, to be sure. The young fellow in the white shirt looking at the Viper TA turned out to be my only passenger of the day. And I saw the new V-12 Aston Martin of our own Rick (James Bond) Russo for the first time! Also new to me was Bob's Corvette ZR1. I liked the lineup of green and orange Lotuses! And Aventadors are always worth a few extra shots. Thanks again to FoA, AMP and all the sponsors. It was good to see friends I hadn't seen in awhile (and in some cases, their new rides) but it was even better to see the smiles on the faces of the kids and their parents. I remember back to the first running of this event, and the eventual knowledge that the kid who rode with me that day did not survive to see the second running. We need to keep this all in perspective: I hope that all the kids who were with us yesterday will be able to join us next year, knowing full well that some of them may yet not make it..... Man am I sorry I missed it. I thought it was going to rain and didn't want to spend 6 hours driving in the rain. I will be there next year for sure.
Thank you everyone (as Seth posted) for the efforts you put into this event each year. I can say for everyone it was OUR PLEASURE attend and share with the kids! (Always excellent to see many friends out there participating as well)
After many years of this we always come away feeling so great about how the kids react to the event and about how wonderful it is to meet their families. It's a real treat. But, what's also so impactful is the enthusiasm of the drivers and how much support our community provides. We are so fortunate to have the fantastic people we have pitching in to make Rides a success. Heartfelt thanks to you all. The tally was 424total particpants with 123 cars, another 85 children and the balance being families and volunteers. Looking forward to planning Rides to Remember number 10!!!
You may have noticed our Velocity photographer extraordinaire Chad Burdette taking shots from an overpass during the caravan. He also took several from FMOA and AMP. He is gifted at showing a car's motion on track, so check it out, you may have been spotted giving a ride! Check them out here on Velocity's FB page. Many have already been tagged as drivers - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.772295116146822.1073741838.204497956259877&type=1 One of my favorites is from my cell phone in the pace car.
