    There's a pretty major difference between the 2012 Aventadors and the 2013+ Aventadors. 2012 Aventador shifting was crazy brutal and generally not "good" (but pretty exciting), throttle wasn't sensitive either. 2013 Aventador has very fast shifting, and much more sensitive throttle mapping. At full throttle, the shifts are comparable to a dual clutch except with a little more "kick."

    Lots of people with lots of different experiences depending on which you drove.

    All I can say is that going from an Aventador to a Ferrari California really sucks. I miss the kicks, although my girlfriend hated the Aventador and loves the California. The Lambo is definitely not passenger friendly.

    I had a 458 before a 2012 Aventador and I can tell you I completely regretted the initial switch. The 2012 Aventador had exciting, but clunky, shifts, and although faster had a much more "dead" throttle. It felt like pushing it halfway down gave me 25% throttle, and to get the other 75% I had to go all the way down, and even then there felt like a 1 second lag before anything happened. Not a turbocharge lag, just like the pedal was taking a full second to actually realize I had pressed it.

    Fast forward 1 year, swapped out for a 2013 Aventador at the behest of my dealer, and it was a world of difference. Car felt much much lighter, just due to throttle sensitive change (amazing what that does).

    That being said, I always felt a little nervous humming around in the Aventador due to its width and low-ness to the ground. You essentially MUST use the lifter on EVERY speed bump, and sometimes the nose would scrape on a windy road with rapid elevation changes.

    Cornering at high speeds, Aventador is super stable, whereas the 458's tail slips around like a fish covered in oil. I preferred the 458 in that regard. In either case, the Aventador felt much faster, especially at highway speeds.

    If Aventador is so bad why they sold so many of them? (Aventador have over 50% better sales numbers than Murcielago)

    I see. So the width of the Avy is an issue although the scissors doors aren't problematic in a garage? I had a Cali before the 458 spider. I think the 458 doors swing much wider and the low seats definitely take more effort for ingress than the Cali Daytonas. I daily my Spider and the parking garage at work is narrow with a left winding exit which I take very slowly. I scratched my rim on the 911 once against the curb, now I'm very careful when leaving work. I could never drive a car with a long hood like an SLS, too risky coming up against the curb as it winds from ground to first floor. My colleague curbed his scuderia on exit. This makes me nervous about going Avy width which is 80"!

    Worried about how low the ride is too. I would scrape the plastic apron beneath the front of my 911 when going up a ramp into the parking garage even taking it at an angle. No issues with the Cali or 458. I just take it slow and angle no lift necessary. Same with exiting onto street.

    What is often overlooked with doors that open upward is that once you know they are good, you just throw them open. I had and R8 and 12C in the garage recent -- a somewhat small garage -- and it was way easier to get in and out of the 12C because the only way to get close enough to hit the doors when opening them would require being too far over to enter the garage in the first place. Pulling in and banging doors were mutually exclusive.

    This meant that you didn't even have to think about it, unlike regular doors where you had to actually open the door carefully so as not to go too wide and bang it. Depending on that hold-region of the door and how closely you pulled in, it could vary each time.

    So yeah, even though it might be tight getting an Aventador in the garage, the fact that you know the max space required by opening them 100% makes it way quicker/easier getting in.

    In my experience, the doors have actually been superior than normal ones.

    Now a FGT on the other hand, heh...

    I think this is the wrong place to be asking about opinions on Lamborghini's... ;)
    I'm not saying everyone here is bad mouthing the Aventador just because they like Ferrari's better, but this place isn't exactly known for it's loving views towards the "dark side" of Italy.

    Having driven both (for short periods) it is really tough to gauge. For me, I feel especially with the Aventador, it is a car that you NEED to really get used to. Just getting in one and going for a test drive IMO is not enough. With my experience, I was never able to get fully comfortable driving the car how I would want to drive it, fluid, smoothly and confidently. The car is SO big and the blind spots are even bigger that it does put you on edge and make you focus more on everything around you than the actual expereince.

    With the 458, it's no problem! Hop in and go, you feel like Michael Schumacher after the first downshift. The car is so easy to drive and enjoy (on the street, I am sure for the track there would be a bigger learning curve!) that IMO it adds a whole differnt level of usefulness to the car. You have the time and space to take in the smell of the interior and the beautiful stitching and cockpit that surrounds you.

    I do think that both cars are SO different. The Aventador to me is a car that would provide a more visceral experience and a sense of occasion when going out in it. Surely it would be a weekend car that you drive as your main event for the night. Once adapted I think that the Aventador could feel more special purely based on the fact that its usability would be much lower and every time the car comes out, it really is an event for you and everyone around you.

    I think that the 458 is a truly usable Super Sports car. It is a car that can make your special occasion even better by taking the 458. Ultimately, the 458 is more of a classy and elegant experience that is unlike anything else out there. Truly remarkable and unmatched in its intended purpose and usefulness. The 458 I feel is a car that you can take your SO out for a beautiful drive to a nice restaurant. The Aventador is more of a weekend toy that creates its own event. You drive the 458 whereas you are merely along for the ride in the Aventador!

    Nice comparison. Makes sense. I agree that one needs time in a car, especially an extreme supercar with lots of character, to get used to it and really get the full experience. The Aventador really excels at high speed running which is difficult to appreciate in the US, unfortunately.

    This I agree with , the little time I spent driving the Aventador was not enough but the little I did learn is it hates stop and go and loves an open road.
