Yes, I really like the way Larini sound. My Larini actually came from a 328. Thanks Renato, that's one of the reason I left the diaper off, I didn't want to cover the exhaust.
Original Rosso Chiaro. After 36 years, wheels going in for restoration, correct paint color and new XWXs.
One more pic from that trip to Italy a few weeks ago. And of course, you can't go to Italy in May without at least one day of RAIN. And raining it did.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Did the car seem more peppy when it returned to Italy, I know my Mercedes always loved a visit to Stuttgart.
First Ferrari. Very Excited. Will need to do some homework to determine best way to give it a lower stance. Also have to determine if I want to keep the compomotive 17" wheels or stick to my original vision of 17" original BBS RS wheels with polished lips and gold centers to compliment tan interior. More pics here too... Related to that wheel decision I just mentioned in the last post... This is the only picture of a car I have found that is close to what I envisioned for my 308. This is a non-QV car but you get the idea of the black with tan interior and gold BBS wheels although the lips on these do not look high polished and the gold painted centers are more dull than I am envisioning. Interested in opinions on this unique look of the custom painted 17" BBS RS vs the 17" polished Compomotives. I know OEM purists will say none of the above so respectfully they need not waste any time chiming in with that common feedback. I know the custom wheel variations are not for everyone. I'd go back to the original 16" 308 style rims it came with. You can get a nice set of new repro's for a good price. Try superformance.... http://www.superformance.co.uk/308/wheels.html They also offer a gold version.
Noblesteed, I appreciate the feedback but as I mentioned in my post, I respect the "OEM everything" purist opinion but I'm definitely not interested in going back to the 16" stock wheel look. I'm in the group that feel that the right quality, classy, period correct (or period correct look) aftermarket wheel like the 2 i am weighing gives the 308 an aggressive and improved aesthetic and sets it apart, especially in 17" with a properly lowered stance. Here are some pics of the classic BBS RS style wheel I am considering switching to. These are 4 different examples, all recently refinished in slightly varying gold color centers from a more flat gold up to a more 'polished metallic' gold center and all having polished lips.
I have a similar car but with Red interior. The wheels are 16" BBS RS1s. Great wheel but I am still up in the air on the look. I also have the original 14" Campagnolo wheels as well but the rubber is very old. The rims are polished and sealed and the centers are painted. Mine have not been restored in any way and thus the centers are not as bright as they would be on a new or restored set. I got them because I did not want to spend big dollars for 14" tires nor spend the dollars for a factory set of 16" wheels (hard to find too) or the replicas. These BBS wheels are a good wheel. I think the gold looks good with the black but is the only think gold on the car. Plus, I have an aversion to gold in general. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pics did not upload with this previous post for some reason. Here they go... I am very intrigued by the high polished metallic gold look of the last pic. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Richard. I think she looks great. I'm with you that I generally have an aversion to gold but I agree with the earlier post that the gold center BBS wheels would only look good on a black 308 and even more so on a GTS with the tan interior where it is highly visible with the top off and it matches/compliments the gold wheel and ties together. Looks good on your black w/red as well but I agree with you that the gold is not ideal standing alone on the wheels without the tan interior compliment. I also personally think it creates an entirely different (more aggressive and better) look when they are 17" with more lip and a nicely lowered stance. Just my opinion though. I am probably going to go for the Gold BBS RS look on mine soon but will have to decide on gold tint and finish from flat/muted gold to the high gloss/polish metallic gold look. I'm leaning towards the "if you are going to go, go all the way" philosophy with the polished metallic gold version in the last pic of the 4 gold centers I posted.
To each his own. Not a fan of BBS wheels on any of 3x8 series. Can't put a finger on it, IMHO it's like two styles merging that just don't work..
The highly polished look is interesting and would add to the look of the car. It would give it a little sparkle. Thanks for posting the pictures. Those are highly polished. I doubt mine ever looked like that in the '70s and although they are in good shape time takes its toll.
Just got my daughter to take a few shots, sweet. the car, not my daughter !!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
