I am sure the new turbo model will be faster than the 458, but one of the reason reviewers and owners like it so much is the linearity of the N/a engine. And probably one of the reasons the mp4 hasn't sold as well. Every review I have seen of the mp4 and 650 says it has turbo lag.

I remember the 430 coupe and spider being out at almost the same time. Maybe the coupe was a little earlier but not so much. I agree if they follow the 360-430 pattern, then we will see both at similar times. But Ferrari can do whatever it wants. FWIW, I am hearing "458T" a lot lately............

Probably would be something like 408T, though, right? It'll be derived from the 3.9L T engine the new California T is using. And don't they need to keep it at 4L or less for tax reasons in markets like China?

exactly my information. i was offered a build slot in late 2015/ early 2016 if i give a downpayment now. my main question is whether i can switch over to a 458Speciale coupe slot after the 458T has been presented, if the latter turns out not to be to my liking. my dealer says yes but i worry that by then the speciale coupe will not be built anymore.
your thoughts on the timing of the end of the 458S?

Are you in the US? Asking for a downpayment? Haven't seen that

In anycase, the 458 M or S whatever you want to call it, (remember the 16M) will be the last of it's kind. By then there should be rumors about what it's replacement will be.

My guess is we don't see that until perhaps Late 2017, early 2018, but im just guessing.

One of the current Speciale threads suggest production will cease to make way for the 458T - in the past the only overlap has been for Spiders too

precisely what i fear. the 458T will certainly be faster than the S, more comfortable as a cruiser and more high tech. the driving experience worries me though

I don't think there will be any overlap once 458T starts production the 458S will have been stopped. Might be a couple weeks after unveil and prior to when 458 T goes into full production but it'll be cutting it REAL close. I would think your order would be in and the factory will just be getting the last few 458S and Spiders built by then.

The newest Ferrari will always be better than the Ferrari it replaces... otherwise what is the point? :)

Don't know much about the next 458. Just know that it will be turbo. I am sure it will be fast, and as always better than the next version. When I drive my 458 it still amazes me how good the car is. I always think, wow. I can't even imagine how they will
improve on the already wonderful 458. But, Ferrari always seems to better themselves. We are lucky to be able to drive such a machine. Will try and get on list, or just wait and see. Hopefully more details about the updated 458 will come out. Cheers everyone.

You are right...I did a poor job articulating that last part. I am truly blessed to be healthy and be able to afford my dreams cars. God bless.

In many cars it has to do with torque management. Look at Pagani - the Huayra has a single clutch 7 speed. At least a few other high performance cars use a modernized and very potent single clutch system for durability reasons.

Indeed. The system used by Koenigsegg is a brilliant and very light design. And it handles massive amounts of torque and horsepower.

Ah yes, should have used them as an example instead of Pagani! They have some pretty unique engine and turbo solutions too. 3d printing the turbo housing allowing them some sort of crazy designs inside the housing.

I also believe that some manufacturer (can't remember who) use a single clutch system and claim they have the fastest torque-to-torque time in the industry. Most manufacturers cite shift times, which is only the time it takes to upshift, not the time it takes for the power to be reverted to the drivetrain. That the dual-clutch systems have a so-called zero shift time is boloney.

Could be wrong, think I read this in evo a couple of months ago. Can't remember who or what, just the fact that whilst reading the article I was made aware of the difference between "shift times" (as for instance Ferrari use) and torque-to-torque (or clutch-to-clutch) times.

I might be stepping into some deep water here, since I'm no engineering expert...

    Let's hope.

The looks of the F430 with all the severe angles hurt the looks of the 360 IMVHO. the CaliT looks better than the orig Cali (evolutionary not revolutionary)...let's hope the 458T looks better as well.

The "shift time" in DCT is zero, as the next gear is already preselected. All that is done is open one clutch while the other is being closed...
