Hard to see where there is a "missed point".

The original question was, to paraphrase:
"On a car which currently has body coloured lower bits, should I re-paint them in black?"

This invites opinions. And opinion seems to be evenly divided on which looks "better"

In the end it comes down to the individual, and there is no definitive right answer.
    Only opinions.

My opinion is that they both look good, but I prefer body colour.
    So what? No "missed point".

    love forum pedantics, so cool.

missed point is that we aren't all out to make an old car look more modern, as was hinted at. Clearly touched a nerve so thats where I'll leave it.

    Personally?

Yellow cars look better in all body color.

Red cars look better in the OEM black satin lower sections.

    But that's just me :)

I like how much debate the simple question generated. It's good that people have strong feelings about their 348s. :D

    All the best,
    Andrew.

So everybody should have their car exactly as it left the factory because that's how you prefer them?

My 1990 348 TS had all of it's black panels painted red years ago by a previous owner - Guess who painted it? : According to the big file of service information that came with the car, it was painted way back yonder by an official Ferrari Dealership!

Now I'd say that if Ferrari don't have a problem with the black panels being colour-coded, then nobody else should have either!

If you don't like the look of colour-coded panels on older cars: Don't worry about it, it's not your car! ;)

I think some of it depends on the color, but in my opinion,

All 348 spiders should be body colored
All GTS should be body colored
    GTB's could be either...

There is a reason 512tr's went the body colored route, along with later 348's.

    +348.

I agree.. But its your car. Do what you like and have fun doing it. I have a 355 spider..love the all one color look. I think the black looks kinda cheap. But thats an opinion...do what makes you think the paint on the car pops when you look at the car.... Honestly 99.9% of the people that see your car wont notice because they dont even know what their looking at.

I was originally going to paint my black rockers to match the rest of the car. But after driving the car a couple thousand miles and scaping on many a parking lot I appreciate how easy the flat black is to touch up and repair.

What I would like the best is that nice duel headlight Mangusta lurking in the back of the second photo on this thread. Wouldn't care what color the rockers were.

I used to think that all Ferrari's should have round tail-lights but since getting My 348 TS and seeing it from behind with the lights on , I have to say that there is something quite exotic (and dare I say:Sexy!), about the standard lights thin wide strip of tail lights at the top!

My brother and his fiancée were following Me home in the dark and both said that the tail-lights just looked so cool! ( When I took My future Sister in Law out for a spin she said: " Cor! - It's a bit Miami Vice isn't it!" with a big smile on her face! [I'm assuming it was a compliment!] )

(I do kinda wish that the brake lights and rear indicators were long thin strips as well though!)

    That is true.

The spoiler picks up rocks all the time and black is super easy to cover.

I totally agree but as said earlier some like their car to look late 80s or early 90 s. I think the black makes it look like the end of that era.

    why all that agression?
all i said was "i prefer original cars".
    thats 100% correct.
of course everyone may modify his Ferrari.
but the thread is about the question, if one prefers the colour coded parts or original black.
i prefer original! so whats wrong with that?

You're safe. It's not like you asked whether one prefers the "ts" lift out roof to be the original black or painted body color. Or, even more troublesome, do you prefer the 348 to the 355?

Lets review what you actually said:

The highlighted part reads as an aggressive dictation telling owners of 348 TB's/TS' that they shouldn't paint their lower panels in the car body colour, to have them how they want, but should instead should buy a later model.

The fact that you prefer the original look of the black lower panels on 348 TB's/TS' is fine, but your personal opinion does not authorise you to dictate to others what they should do!

Lets face facts here, this is paint we're talking about. It's not exactly some sort of irreversible alteration being made to these cars that ruins them forever!

Somebody paints the lower panels on a 348 TB/TS in the same colour as the rest of the car - So what? It's not the end of the World! - The car can always be repainted if the next owner prefers the black lower panels!
