Some skanky stuff there When I got my car the plugs looked like your heads did with the buildup and similar numbers I ran a few tanks full with techron cleaner then the delco stuff direct to the injectors and my plugs come out clean as a whistle now
I agree totally I would have said lack of respect for an engine that needs to exercise its lungs. Gives meaning to the term "I need to go burn off some carbon" and reinforces that these cars need to be driven more in my opinion.
ok check these out, #2 cylinder looks like the seat has some wear from the valve moving. I could be wrong but it doesn't look great. The valve also moves inside the seat not a ton but like a GM head I have in the shop about the same amount of movement. But this is smaller and more precision so should it move at all in the guide? I think not. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well Machinist Confirmed today my guides are indeed in need of replacing. I guess I'll go with new Bronze Magnesium guides. I can't seem to source the Steel guides without spending crazy money on them. Unless someone knows a source that can hook me up on 16 steel exhaust guides. I already Have the Steel intake guides on the way but I can't find the exhausts.
Are the cylinder liners ok? Would any amount of fuel additive or Italian tune up ever clean up that mess? How much "exercise" does it take to prevent this from happening? Does improper fuel contribute to this?
Holy Smokes! That engine had 15000 miles on it?! What were they using for gas? Crude oil soaked dirt?
I remember back in 89 with my 3 series I was supposed to add a bottle of Techron to every tank of gas to prevent just this type of build up. If you didn't after a while the head had to be pulled and blasted with walnut shells to remove the carbon build up. I think I might start adding Techron to my 355
Everything you do and what parts your using I think my heads may look the same inside, my scope is not small enough to see into 10mm holes
Johnny, have you contacted Ferrea or Manley yet. The top two are well known on American engines. Did a google search and came up with an Italian Company. Metelli SpA | Production of the main components of the motor head: valve guides, valve seat inserts, valve shims and adjusting pads
