Call Motor Classic. Ask for Nick. The car is for sale. He's asking a lot. If you have any questions, I can answer them. It's my car. I'm too busy and been sick, and just couldn't handle doing PPI's and having people do what the first guy to contact me did - have me hold the car two weeks, then cancel on me the day before, with the excuse "If it were yellow, I'd own it." I told him I wasn't well, and it was a big effort for me to get up and get the car ready to show him, and rearrange my schedule. The car's been black since Dr. Sonderegger bought it from Bill Harrah's store in Reno in 1974. Maybe the only Dino owned for 28 years by a US Marine Corps combat doctor who survived Guadalcanal and was awarded a Bronze Star. When I spoke to him in 2007 about the car, and his life, he never mentioned that little detail. Anyway, I consigned it, and if he doesn't sell it, I'll gladly take it back. Hopefully by then I'll be feeling better, and Dinos will be going for a million bucks. LOL.

I emailed Nick about the car, letting him know my reason for asking.

I haven't heard back about an asking price.

He's not real responsive to emails. Took him four days to answer one of mine. Better to call.

Mike, if OK with it, why not save a bunch of calls and time and tell us how much he is asking?

Let me guess. He has a show on Velocity. He did something VERY similar in public for all to see on his TV show just a few years ago when a family in New Jersey contacted him to get his advice about what they should do with "Dad's" old 246 GTS that was stored in a single car enclosed shed looking garage. The GTS had some mice that had taken up residence in it, but they hadn't destroyed the Dino.

The TV car guy's solution? "Sell me the GTS for $55,000" (IIRC). So they did. This was at the time when a standard GTS was going for $150,000 to $165,000.

It was very disappointing to see FAMOUS TV CAR GUY do this to a family of apparently modest means who had come to him for what they had obviously hoped would have been independent advice. IIRC FAMOUS TV CAR GUY made no mention of consignment or auction options.

Of course, no one in their right mind would expect a dealer to have offered anything close to full resale value for a car that needed to be cleaned up, but this was beyond the pale, IMO.

The TV guy has so many bad stories, he would be the last one I'd ever deal with. Nick has a good reputation, and has been a pleasure to deal with. If all goes well, I will post.

Auctions are great if you want he buzz and hype, but you need two guys who understand and appreciate original to be there the same day. I expect Dinos to keep going up.

I believe this car was sold at a number substantially higher than this amount.

I was speaking at a recent event here in Houston to an ORIGINAL Dino owner since 1974.

Wayne had looked at the car at THIS car and asked the owner what he wanted, the owner said a number that started with a 4, the owner may have considered a high 3 number, I don't know....

This car had EVERYTHING you would want - books, tools, key fob, etc......

    I personally examined the car.

This is an honest car with ALL OF THE GOODIES.....

    A car I would want.

From what I understand, there was no offer at all.

There was no response about even making a low ball offer.

I was pretty certain, even being a great car, market is so uncertain, no one is getting crazy.

After buying Dino's, I have not seen cars like this offered.

I am guessing the owner is better off not selling. A number starting with a "4" isn't fair for a Dino like this today.

Goodbye to Dino world for now. The car sold at close to ask. It was a wonderful car, and a spectacular investment, and I hope I am healthy enough to buy another one someday, though next time I'll get a driver, not the rarity that this car was.

I miss it badly, but someone should enjoy it... It was sitting in the garage for too long and would have for the next five years at least.

Thanks to all on fchat who helped me with the car, and support new owners.

So yes, outstanding cars are legitimately getting spectacular prices. There were many, many buyers.

The asking price was $575,000.00. I suspect based on Mike's comments that it was close to that number.

BTW, Nick was a pleasure to deal with. Low key, reputable, not a pig. I recommend him highly. He knows his stuff. I don't think he would knowingly stick anyone, and he knows a LOT. he also softened the blow of seeing my beloved Dino drive away. A good guy, and I'm glad he made a few bucks. There aren't enough men of their word left in this world.
