This is a really bizarre situation ... I can understand buying a spare for the car you happen to have .. but for a series of cars? Very strange to say the least.

    Seems a nearly unprecedented opportunity.

Seems that an engine that has sat untouched for 20 years will need every single seal and hose replaced, or it will leak like a sieve when you fill it with oil and water.

Almost certainly Dennis McCann or the guy that bought his parts business.

He had a lot of things in stock that just didn't make sense to stock but if you needed something weird he often had it. Then the trouble was getting him to sell it to you.

I'd bet it wouldn't leak or spill a drop of any fluid - at least not until it was started & brought up to temperature. ;)

Certainly a fascinating "collection." I'd love to know the original purchase prices & thoughts behind obtaining these engines.

Not too often to see someone who is "just a collector" privately put away engines for a F40, Testarossa, 328, 308i QV, and 512BBi and never open the crates. The significant aspect is plural... not just an engine, but engine"S". I was thinking: You can't drive them, he wasn't looking at them (still crated), so why tie up so much money for such a long time? I know what some people will say, "because HE could"...

Like David I just want to hear the story and what they sold for new 20years ago. The F40 engine brought a nice price, but I thought it would bring more; then again how many F40 owners are in need of one due to a blown engine.

I will be intersted to see what the other engines bring.

I have a new 512M motor from the factory in crate with factory dyno sheets. Another one I know of was put into a Tr and apart from the obligatory belt change waterpump it runs great.

For me the question is what to put it in, was going to use it as spare for the boxer, but now with boxer prices origionality seems everything.

I know it sounds crazy but I've wanted to see a crate Ferrari motor in a totally different car -- cars like the Lotus Elise, maybe a Caterham, or other types of kit cars.

An Elise with a Dino 246 motor or maybe a Caterham 7 with a 308 QV engine would be something else.
