Now you're talking! They've virtually made the Grid Girls cheerleaders already. Notice after the race is over and the drivers are ushered up to the podium ceremonies, they've got the Grid Girls all standing along the hallways applauding them until they've all passed by. Next thing we know, they'll be having the Grid Girls throwing rose petals at the winning driver's feet on his way to the podium. Next thing we know, Bernie's simulated rain sprinklers idea will be back on the table. Gads. BHW
I can't think of any other [major] sport that changes their sporting regulations as frequently as Formula 1. The sport is hugely successful internationally in spite of the FIA. Can't you leave it alone for just a season or two? IMHO
Precisely why I always laugh to myself when the issue of "cost cutting" is brought up, yet the rules change every year
It's not the sport I used to love for the last 5 decades. In recent years, it has become a circus. This, with double points and other gimmicks will kill my enthusiasm. I am surprise major manufacturers still put a lot of money in what is becoming farcical. I am glad MotoGP hasn't gone the same way.
+1. The start of a GP is the most excited times. I would LOVE to see multiple starts if at all possible. This will make for more great racing, especially on the more boring tracks.
Beg to differ there - At least it gets them out of the way of the front runners - They just form up at the back of the choo-choo ahead of the SC coming in. Why they've decided to then stop the whole mess and do another standing start is however beyond me - One way or the other, but both!? Even I'm starting to suspect they've lost their collective minds. Cheers, Ian
There was a great piece written today, I think in ESPN F1 about how F1 is turning from the NFL to the XFL. These new rules are a joke, and really unfair to the best drivers on the planet http://en.espnf1.com/f1/motorsport/story/164451.html
It's another attempt to make the show more exciting to the ADD amongst us. (This is the right thread, yes?)
I just read the same article and it's spot on. No refueling, dictating what tires need to be used, DRS, double points, titanium skid plates for sparks, standing starts, all artificial gimmicks to feign excitement.
Im for it. The best drivers now have to handle another standing start. That's what they get paid for. I will still watch. Crazy idea but it will be interesting. Pitpass recommends we 'Listen to Luca' - http://www.pitpass.com/51910/We-Need-To-Listen-To-Luca
Standing starts are great, probably the best part of the race in some cases, but, they are on fresh tires and fresh heads. Imagine 3/4 of the way into a race with dead tires and tired heads.... Recipe for disaster... But it will be fun to watch
A massive pile-up at the third restart eliminating half the grid should suffice to send the ring master to the drawing board, I think.
+1 Although, I doubt there'd be many cars left by the third restart! Then I assume they'd line up as they do today in their original grid slots, so they could be further apart than they are when rolling! Report at Autosport has the jockeys 'questioning' the whole thing on safety grounds too - unless they're allowed to switch tires at least! Some on old stuff, probably some on new, but all pretty cold and half on the marbles. Just seems like a recipe for disaster to me. And I still haven't seen any of the 'stakeholders' comment as to why they think this nonsense is a good idea. As a couple of folk here have noted, the start is certainly a highlight, but it's just that; the ****ing *start*! Being the eternal optimist, I'm hopeful this craziness may yet get overturned when they come down off whatever drugs they're on. But I also thought that about the double points BS too. Cheers, Ian
