How I wash my F355. Touchless.

Foam it, Rinse it and Blow Dry it. This works every time. This is assuming your car isn't covered in mud and grime.

My car has never been wet! Wiped down with showroom shine after every drive. Car has not even seen rain!

 

I've always used a leafblower to dry my cars after washing. Definitely the best way to dry it.

 

Good thing you have a yellow car becuase you certainly will have microscratches.

My car is black and since I did my paint correction I only wet wash it. I use speed shine directly after a wash just to remove any water spots.

 

This will only work if the car is "dusty" but not "dirty". I have tried this method with even a pressure washer at 3,000 psi and if there is a film on the car, it will not rinse off.

If the car is never driven in the rain or on wet roads this will likely work fine but if there is any kind of film it won't come off without agitation.

In those cases, I foam the car, pressure rinse, foam again, and then proceed with 2 bucket method. Love my foam cannon.

 

If you are going to blow dry your car you seriously need to consider the best tool to do the job. That would be the Master Blaster from Universal (made in the USA also). Leaf blowers are not easy to handle doing a car and the MB has much higher velocity with warm air. Two 4hp motors get the job done fast. Think tank type vaccum cleaner on steroids run backwards.

 

I have had to hot wash the 355 today, i went to Goodwood FOS for 4 days and cars always end up coverd in a thick layer of dist while parked in the carparks. Goodwoods famous for its dusty car parks, all kinds of dust coverd cars in the car parks from ferraris to zondas at the end of a long day.

 

I went to quite some considerable lengths to try and achieve a touch less wash and I'm afraid I'm in the "will only work on dust" camp.

I finally settled on using a prewash applied with a garden pump sprayer, rinsed off with a garden hose then washed with a soft mit. Leaf blowers are great especially on 348s where there's lots of grills etc.

 

Ritually waxing the body and wheels help keep the grime down.

Quick detailing a car all the time to keep it clean is the best way to induce swirls and scratches. Quick detailers are only meant for the lightest dust and fingerprints. Using a waterless wash is much better, but "wiping down" the car all the time (instead of washing it) with anything will eventually mar your paint.

Was thinking the same thing Tim. Still I use a leaf blower too and it works great. The difference is I do my final rinse with de-ionized water, then blow dry. After that, I detail with a good product (Griots or equivalent). That makes the difference.

 

Vince where do you get DI water from, you have a tank to convert it?

 

This is exactly do. I still use a wash mitt with a bucket of soapy water, but I use a leaf blower to dry it.

 

I bought the CR Spotless system last year. Used it about 10 times. Pretty good so far.

Find a swirl in my car! You won't. Car has never been in dirt or mud, just dust from driving down the road.

 

Impossible my friend. Shine an LED light at it and take a picture.

So...I guess taking one's Ferrari to the track is out of the question?

 

I use different versions of attachments for the water hose. The cheapest and quickest is the Mr. Clean washing system, but I only use the rinse water filters. If you really want to go gung ho you can invest in a commercial system, but I find that excessive since I am going to blow dry the car and detail after anyway. Those more expensive systems are designed for auto sale lots to just rinse and go.

 

Not only has my car never been in the rain, or even subjected to a fully sunny day, I have installed a custom exhaust hose and fitting so that when the driver's side window is lowered 4 inches and I have gaseous event, my personal exhaust exits from my custom made rosso corso men's briefs through a connected hose and into the world at large, with never one molecule of foulness touching my F car's leather seats.

As soon as I get the valving figured out, I am going to install an oxygen mask and connect it to the hose.

How much more is my car worth as a result?

 

To you chaps who never need to wash - do you not have flies and insects in your parts of the world?

My car is presently covered in dead ones. They are ex-flies. They have ceased to be.
And tonight, I shall be putting some more to the automotive sword. (Before a wash at the weekend).

My car doesnt get muddy, and only very rarely rained on, but it is a very effective tool for gathering and exterminating insects.

I do my best with two bucket method, different sheepskin mittens for different parts of the car, as contactless wash and dry as possible, but some wear and tear (and hence swirl marks) is just inevitable.
