The only error in your analysis Carl is the total at the bottom of page two. They are proposing to charge him 4400 for cam seals and the full major charge as well. It could certainly be someone at the shops clerical mistake and I would think it is but the estimate does not total it that way.
Bob, I'd venture that the "total" is not the total but just a summation of line items on the form. (The form is not smart enough)
As I said I would give them the benefit of the doubt on that but the OP did not state that they explained that and he was given that PPI with that total and sales tax was included on the full estimate as well. So to the OP, I would make a call on that item and get it clarified. If it is the total as presented then there is a problem with that facility.
Bob, my software does the same. Yesterday I quoted a project for a customer with 4 line items, but there is only 2 choices. The software totals all 4 and it can't differentiate tax as well.
Did you explain that to your customer when you gave him the estimate? AS I said, if the OP is interested in this car and this facility I would ask that question of them. If it is an error of omission or a misunderstanding by the OP then that answers it. If it isn't then there is a problem.
I asked this further back in the thread and I would certainly like to know why a F car dealer is not doing this as part of the PPI. Was it specifically denied or not requested by the OP or are they just not doing them?
It's rather obvious in my case, obviously no so much in this case or the OP would not have been shocked. I'm not 100%, but pretty sure the "cam seal" line item was priced assuming that would be the only item done. So, if done with a major, it would be much less. Same for the CV boot.
I put a call into Tim Stanford this morning to see what he would charge me to do the major service and CV joint. I also talked with someone I know over at Ansa motorsports, who seems to be very fair, but they cannot get the car in till September due to the racing season.
Yeah, that total can't be correct because they double dip for both the major/cam seal fixes and the rear tires (one line items is replace all 4 tires and another line item for the rear tires). The individual prices seem realistic - except you can easily get 4 tires for half what they quote. I'd expect to be into it for $10k with everything done.
I spoke with Tim Stanford this morning, He said he did not have a certain computer that was needed to do the service on the 355. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He stressed to me how important the leak down and compression test were to see if the valves were still good. He said once I received that report from the dealer he would take a look at the results for me.. Thanks Tim!! I put a call into the dealership this morning to get some better clarification on the PPI report provided as far as costs. Still no call back. what's your thoughts on this car guys? What do you think would be a good price for the car considering the work that needs to be done? Can you shoot me some numbers you guys would think are fair...
My thoughts are I don't know what color it is, if its F1 or stick and no pictures. No compression or leak down done. I don't have enough information to even take a guess. Get your compression test done. Describe the car in detail a lot more. How many prior owners? Where has it lived? Keys, books, etc.? Take a slew of pictures and put them on here and we might be able to help you a lot more.
Mid to high 50s maybe dip into the low 60sif its it really clean. Buddy just bought a GTB 99 gate with 24k and paid $68 with a service done this year.
For mid 50's you could buy this one. Maybe has less fleas. 1997 Ferrari 355 Spyder Red | Upper Saddle River, New Jersey | Jack Daniels Motors I've been looking for an excuse to check it out even though I don't want a spyder myself.
That looks like a nice car from what you can see. If it needs a major and everything else checks out about it and is legit it is priced right, IMO. NOt to far from me to look it over if youre interested.

I appreciate all your help guys..
What is the seller asking for the car? It sounds like a rough car to me and a black car from FL is not something I would be interested in unless its a project and you can get it cheap.
Requested pictures of the car. What do you guys think the car is worth considering the work that needs to be done? Kevin, Before you can seriosuly think about buying this car and realistically even come up with an offer you need to minimally get a compression test done. If you have serious issues as a result of that and the leakdown, the offer drops substantially if it even stands. Was this car in a flood? I am wary of the rust in the sills like that. Being in Florida, I bet this car was either in a floof or driven through salt water flooding. I would inspect this car on a lift meticulously if again you are serious about it. This is not a pampered, well cared for car. How many owners has it had? Is the car fax clear? Why does this car demand this much attention from you. Unless the ask is very low, there are much better examples out there for sure.
