Hello. I purchased a 1997 355 a few weeks ago. I have been reading posts here and see there are many with much knowledge. I could use some help. I was driving today when the battery light came on, this was followed by the temp gauge climbing (noticed when I limped it home fan was not working), and seemed power steering was not working the same. I did not let it overheat and checked fuses and they seem fine. I have since tried to plug in battery tender and battery is not accepting a charge. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Your battery is likely dead, that's one issue.

Thanks for reply. Do you know if both left and right fans kick on at same temp?

Thanks for all the help! I checked and the fuses and relays are good. The fan blade spins but does not turn on at 200.

On mine ps is driven by the camshaft I think and the water pump and the alternator are together and the ac is separate.

Now that I have found that the fan on the coolant radiator is not operating I am guessing the fan motor or temp sensor. Temperature kept climbing when driving 30 mph though. 80 degree day. Does the fan keep it from going up or would air usually keep it cool?

The temp sensor may not be working because the water pump may not be cirulating the water.
I say this because you said your p/s felt funny.

Ok after reading must say in a bit of a panic. By main belt do you mean cam belt runs power steering and water pump and alternator? Full service was done two years ago. Did something major go wrong here?

No, cam belts are separate. If one of them has a problem, the engine will stop as the pistons hit the valves $$$$.

One belt driving the water pump and Alternator
One belt driving the Power Steering Pump
One belt driving the AC compressor.

Nope your right sorry so again
1 belt for alternator and water pump
1 small belt for power steering separate but hooked to water pump pulley and driven by alternator belt
1 small belt separate for ac

So if alternator belt broke then as Bruce said I think it would quit driving water pump and in turn would quit driving ps pump

    Sorry for my incorrect answers
