1 has the advantage of fudging the smog equipment that 2 does not. 2 is way easier to diagnose all faults including smog related faults. The tests might be different too I can't remember. There is a move afoot with ever restricting and controling obd to just smog test with the computer plug in and all oem equipment in place No dyno. I'm not sure if carb would ever extend this down to 2. In this case 1 has the 2.7 motronic which is almost user tunable with a prom chip and simple tools. There are DIYers working on the 5.2 in the obd2 units but user tuning maybe further away. While I love to hotrod I wound take the 2 as more user friendly for me. If I was tracking and wanting to extract more power it would be the 1. Either car properly smog equipped should pass with no problem. In my opinion but cannot confirm at this time, 355s that don't pass or barely pass is a warning sign of deeper engine problems that can lead toissues particular to the 355

I love that I don't have to smog check my cars. Hell we don't even do inspections here.

My 95 F355 (OBD1) passed California smog (arguably the most stringent in the nation) with hi-flow cats installed. Not sure if an OBD2 would do the same.

Some county's are less strict than others but I'm 99% sure that statewide you must have all smog legal stuff and there are no EO Ferrari cats or headers. You may find that your luck will run out in the coming smog cycles as the rules get tougher and the state tightens its grip on all our freedoms

NYS only checks OBD II cars with OBD, no smog check. No CEL, no problem.

Thanks guys. I know that they both pass today. But I remember reading something about OBD 2 being "upgradable". By that I mean better snitch. Wouldn't it be hoot if the older "dirtier" car ended up better for us because it was too dumb to learn how to snitch.

Mine passed last year with high flow cats and a capristo stage three two valve.
I agree with FBB if it's working proper it has no problem.

Mine had Fabspeed headers and a Tubi exhaust at the time of the test as well. Guess I'm lucky that the folks in my neck of the woods don't know what to look for during their visual examination of a Ferrari. But like FBB said, I'm sure they'll figure out how to get to us eventually.
