Took wifey out for dinner tonight in Laguna and on the way home had to get over 6 lanes to get off the highway. Was being very conservative. See police lights in rearview and get instructed to stop. He said i was making unecessary lane changes and variation in speed. Asked if i had been drinking. Had me look in the flashlight while still in the drivers seat and then let us go. The whole stop was maybe 4 minutes and he sent us on our way. I woulf never have consented to a breath test or anything. I was a little surprised by the eye test with the flashlight

WTF, i this what i should expect just because we are in a Ferrari. I get stopping people driving like @sses or drinking heavily but this was borderline harassment.......

    Anyone get anything similar??

its a holiday weekend. Cops are in full force. Owning a Ferrari in the OC is nothing special.

Yes, I just read about a guy with nearly the exact same problem. He lived in California too. Perhaps it's a trend. Read about his horrible experience in the "Ferrari Discussion (not model specific) " section. Oh the humanity!!!!

As a former LEO I ask why you had to get over 6 lanes when you knew where and what exit you needed to take? Also did you fail to use that little stalk the manufacturer installed called a blinker? Also you establish a lane and then change gradually. Don't blame driver ignorance on the police.

Maybe the cop just wanted to check out your car.
I get more grief from the law on my 1100 Monster.

It's a 4 minute stop, get over yourself.

Isn't it relatively normal for a routine stop to happen? Drive a certain car and the chance of such a stop could increase slightly.

Also, why wouldn't consent to a breathalyzer unless you had been drinking? You would just make life incredibly difficult for yourself.

Almost all the police I have known or met have been patronising or condescending or both at the same time. Is it something they teach in police training?

Really depends what country you're in I suppose.

Spanish police I've met have been the biggest A holes, by a LONG way. Out of 3 policemen I've met in the States, all where very nice.

happened to me in a silver Porsche in Beverly Hills (like seeing a mustang anywhere else), cop was just trolling for a DUI. got the flashlight test too.

funny thing is I was speeding at the time and he wasn't interested in writing me a ticket for that. so his motives were fairly clear to me.

no big deal, don't let it ruin your weekend.

I've never been pulled over in 4 yrs with the Ferrari.

I don't think it had anything to do with the Ferrari at all. Sounds like he was trying to get you for DD. Those charges are BS and wouldn't hold up...

Never been pulled over in 4 years of ownership. Soundsto me like youd have been pulled over no matter what car you were in. You did use turn signal right? I doubt those "charges" will hold... Lame-o. Sounds like he wanted a DD and you weren't.

Mods: perhaps merge thread with the one in 360/430..

You should have offered him a ride and made friends. I got stopped once because the LEO wanted to see my car up close. At least he was honest. He said if anyone asked, I was pulled over for the hanging air freshener that obstructed my view. Too funny.

Relax, it isn't personal. Try to turn it into a light moment, unless you flagrantly break the law. LEOs are decent people.

It is a problem in my opinion as well YET the tone of the interaction is usually set by the person being stopped. I believe that ignorance of the law is no excuse and this thread is a perfect example regardless of the vehicle being driven.

I do not mean to sound judgmental or "holier than thou" but the precedent of this discussion was set with "had to get over 6 lanes to get off the highway". Hopefully a lesson was learned.

That was my thought. If he wouldn't have consented to a breath or blood test, then probably he shouldn't have been driving any vehicle.

FWIW, in Pennsylvania at least, refusing a breathalyzer is an automatic loss of license.

Nothing was mentioned about a refusal only that a SFST was administered and the driver passed.

I have been offered a reserve position with a dept and if I decide to accept said position I will ask for traffic enforcement and DWI patrol.

No, am in south OC and have never been pulled over in any of my F'cars - frequently drive through Laguna Beach and surrounding areas. Once I got pulled over in the SUV and once in an Alfa, both due to my fault (missing front plate, lost tag), but in both cases the officers were polite and helpful - no issue.

    To the OP,
Robert I hope your interaction does not taint your opinion of law enforcement and that you realize your encounter was dictated by your actions. You were not profiled and hopefully you take this as a lesson learned.

Drive safely and you will live to drive another day.

    All the best,
    Gregg

Actually, he never said a field sobriety test was administered, unless you consider looking at someone's eyes with a flashlight a test---which it is not. Also, he did say he WOULD have refused a breathalyzer if asked.

Power goes to their heads. All you can do is be exceedingly polite.
