I hate saying this, but I think MT just landed a cash cow. It's not like a LM will be wreck/damaged any time soon, and it's not like LM conversions happen frequently, but certainly for a rainy day. Another thing I hate saying, but MT seems (from what we've been shown) to make a higher quality, better product. That's understandable given the technological advances over the years, so maybe this is a good thing. Yes and no. CM virtually controls the market for ANYTHING LM. Projects like Traveller's & sherpa's (+ gas monkey and whomever else is doing a resto mod on a f40) do not happen all that often. The only thing I can think of, where CM doesn't have a control over, is spare parts from race teams. So he sells the mould, the person who purchases then starts turning out cheap, low quality "genuine LM" front ends. Now CM potentially ruins into lower quality duplicates being sold as genuine. Or any other f40 owner thinking he stumbled on a bargain. In reality, a mould can always be REMADE from either that one shell CM has kept for all intents and purposes, or he rings a close customer and makes a mould off theirs. Like noted, this just drives up the cost for any genuine duplicates.
Hi Tim, could your tell me how the part marked in red is make? In the first mold this part don´t appears, but afther demolding this is there. Is a separate part and after glue to the mold? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Green stuff is the release agent and will wash off. As you will see the fine layer of Fibre Glass has dissolved and you may just be able to see the subtle honey comb effect, which hopefully we reckon that by judicious prep and paint we can maintain. Now for all the other elements, wheel arches etc. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes they utilise a removable pattern for the NACA duct as it aids removal of the piece from the mould.
I think some members pointed out that the routing of our oil pipe was less than elegant which scratched an itch I already had. Hopefully this is more to your liking? Also note the new wastegate heat shield. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ha! it was me that looks much better, and in keeping with the very high standards of the rest of the car.
Great stuff, didn't know you where mapping at Owens! They recently did an incredible map on what I think is now the most powerful (road) skyline GTR in the UK. Owner is VERY happy with it, huge turbo but very driveable. I'm sure they'll sort this just fine. That Skyline has had some serious coin invested over the years and he went with the best mapper he could find, so you're in good hands .
What a great video!! Everything about this project is first class!! It's a bit of a tease though, can we see some more please??
More? Greedy! Sorry but that was 18 months in the making and more video needs more progress. Sorry to break it to you but the next video will not be until shakedown and that won't be for a while as holidays intervene and we have a clam and details to finish.
The clam now with air conveyor etc trimmed. Can someone also explain to me how you embed a video onto the post rather than it just coming as a link? PS Gregg, am unable for some reason to reply to your pm as apparently you have opted out? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for that and just trying to make sure [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPKkrYCWrQ4]Ferrari F40LM DYNO TEST - YouTube[/ame]
Forgot to comment on this. Good to hear you have also hear good things about them and so far we have had a great experience. Good set up with massive fans to provide engine cooling which literally would blow you away if you stood in front of the car.
8 Kilos for the front clam. Amazing and you are almost frightened to try and bend and push against it yet so strong. Yet another F40 in the shop for a fettle-really beautiful example. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Pretty sure, like most repair/restos the gas monkey car wasn't a 'proper' widebody. I bet Tim was the only person to buy one from CM in a decade!
I just included GM because the have been a heated topic here. Loved the video! Was interesting to see how it was strapped, glad they had it on the back of the rollers too!
