After hearing that Kimi will retire from F1 after his contract expires at Ferrari this makes me think it may be effecting his current motivation. I just do not think his heart is behind the team or the job anymore so it may be a wise move on Ferrari's part to buy him out of his 2015 contract and bring in a young, talented and motivated driver trying to "mark his territory". Kimi gets only richer and can pursue other forms of racing that do not have the personal demands required by F1.

    Just a thought.

I'd submit Bianchi's time is even more impressive given most teams ran the test without FRIC due to the impending ban. That or the FRIC system doesn't do much for lap times, but could explain why Merc dropped off so much.

But this is F1, not a normal company. I really find it weird why so many people here are so focused on instant success. The whole Ferrari team is suffering now, stop pointing the finger at Kimi alone. Is he turning up at races? Is he skipping races? No. The car is just crap, simple as that.

The engine and braking is certainly the #1 immediate concern. The engine is limited in what they can do, but they need to have an engine for 2015.

Driver line up, Ferrari has back themselves into a corner for 2014/2015. The cash flow of buying out Kimi or Alonso just doesn't make sense at all.

The car, is a result of the creativity of the engineers, ability of the craftsmen making it, and the input of the lead driver(Alonso).

I don't like the way Bianchi behaves in front of the cameras. He's a bit of a prima Donna. And he's already too close to Fernardo. Kimi all the way for me.

In all honesty I do hope Kimi stays and is not bought out of his contract simply because next seasons Ferrari could be the class of the field. Wishful thinking?

Never seen him before the cameras to be honest.

If what you're saying is true that's a terrible shame.

Better hire that other Fin instead for 2016 ;).

Mattiachi has said he wants to keep both Alonso and Kimi for next season last week.

I find it funny that people here want Kimi to be sacked instantly and want Hulkenberg or Bianchi in his seat from next race onwards.

Over the last 2 seasons, Kimi has raced his heart out and drove brilliant virtually every weekend. No one can deny that. He gets into his new Ferrari and there is no speed. I seriously doubt he's forgotten how to drive, or the idiotic favourite on here ''he's lost motivation!!''.

Who is to say that Hulkenberg or Bianchi will be any faster than Kimi in this years car?

Bianchi of course has been faster than his mediocre teammate over the last 2 years but in all honestly, I haven't see too much of him during races (mostly because they don't show what those cars are doing) so not much I can say about him. Looking good so far for him though.

The few times that Hulkenberg has been near the front, he took it too easy and either lost out, or crashed out. He's been very consistent this year, which is great, but how great have his teammates been? Not the greatest IMO. Perez has been close to him a lot this season, albeit more inconsistently. He's certainly a good driver, but is he great? Yet to be seen in my opinion.

Unless either of the above drivers has a driving preference nearing that of Alonso, there really is no point at all at a VERY expensive driver swap. Ferrari where inherently dumb with this years driver choice, not because Kimi is a bad driver (he certainly isn't), but because their drivers driving styles are complete polar opposite.

    Bas,
Why do you think motivation is not an issue when it has always been part of Kimi's make up? Like you say he cannot have just lost the ability to drive so why would he all of a sudden become a motivated person?

Yes he was motivated at Lotus, der he had something to prove. He has done that and landed the big money team again ... nothing further to prove.

I was a huge Kimi fan when he arrived in F1 but my wife has been proven constantly right. He is not a great driver, simple as that. Yes he won a WDC but he was not the first lucky/mediocre driver to do so and will not be the last ...

I do though wish testing was allowed again as then he could, if he wanted to, demonstrate some motivation by doing a couple of million laps ...

He has always denied that he's lost motivation and rubished reports.

I struggle to believe that any racing driver that as soon as they strap themselves in the car they're not out to drive as fast as they possibly can.

You obviously did not watch Berger drive for Ferrari then ;). Some days very much faster than others ... :D

Just like any activity motivation is required.

Yes IMO Kimi seems to portray at times that he is just passing through the sport, he does not send out the signal that he wants to elevate himself to being the best ever.

Then at other times the complete Kimi racer turns up.

In the meantime, the forgotten man seems to be Robert Kubica who has just won the Italian WRC event.

What I don't understand is, if Kubica can drive a WRC car after his terrible injuries, why he
can't drive an F-1 car? It would seem that a WRC car would be much more of a handful
to drive not to mention the beating the drivers and navigators take.

Funnily enough I was discussing kubica with someone yesterday involved in WRC. He said it's the limited mobility of his right (?) hand that's the problem, and because of this, there's too little room in the f1 cockpit for him to be able to (a) carry out all the movements he need and (b) get out quickly enough in the FIA tests. Otherwise, he's still as quick as he ever was

    Sadly, all this is true.

I really miss him in F1. He's one of the very few non bull**** F1 drivers out there. Doesn't behave like a prima donna, always straight forward, fun and genuinely nice guy. A more talkative Raikkonen, to a certain extent! I do hope his arm continues to recover more and that he at least gets a few F1 tests in...

He was so consistent in 2008, and in a quick car, he could've won the championship. BMW-Sauber stopped developing the car after Canada, straight after his win to focus on their (rubbish) 2009 car. He was in the running for the championship with 2 races to go. Had they continued, I really do think he would've snatched it away right under the nose from Ham and Massa.
