are the two ECU units located behind the seats on a 512 TR both the same ? having a problem with car and would like to try swapping the two ECU's so that i can eliminate them. my car is an early Euro spec model, without ABS ,is it an easy swap, many thanks

They are the same, and straightforward to swap. I did a similar swap trying to locate an issue with random slow down lights not related to the cat temp ecus in my 92 512TR. What kind of problem are you having?

everything ok when cold, but after 20 miles or so the right hand bank starts to have problems...popping on overun then cuts out, leave for 2or 3 hours , will then be back on all 12. So want to start swapping components to trace fault, have replaced the small power modules on advice but not the problem, possibly the coil pack is failing but the ECU's are easier to change , so will do those first.....

FWIW, i had similar symptoms except that the problem was intermittent but seemed to occur mainly on overrun. The cats were getting hot from unburnt fuel in the exhaust and hence the slow down lights. This in turn cut the fuel to the bank (unlike the Testarossa). My issue was a bad coil (which somehow showed itself up when hot) and secondly some poor connectors to the ECU - I never quite worked out which one(s). I also had a wild goose chase with replacing O2, angular sensor etc. Would love to know what you find.

You could first start by swapping the ecu. If the problem stays on the single side, you could then swap the coil modules and see what happens.

Just don't forget to post your solution when you find it so it may help others.

well swapped ECU's and coil pack made no difference ! something electrical is breaking down after the car has done about 25 miles and is hot, first thing i notice is popping on overrun, then car runs a bit rough and i get oil smoke from right side exhaust. If i leave car to cool down all probs are gone !!, any ideas .......or will have to take into shop...

not the MAF units...symptoms point to coil packs so will now have to check wiring and multi pin plugs.....

its beginning to look like it might be a faulty plug, the one that goes to the coilpack, will try to see if its possible to replace these....

yep ! it was one of the multipin plugs that went to the coil pack, bad connection inside , wired up replacement, car feels so different ! must have been playing up for years without me noticing till it failed completely, happy bunny again.....!!
