It would be great if he came back, but he needs a better reason than money. He's got more money than he'll ever spend. He won a World Championship with a car bearing his name and he helped to turn Mercedes into the dominant force they are now. I'm not sure what he could do at Ferrari that he would find interesting or motivating. He's already won a load of Championships with them. We can all hope, but I think it is as unlikely as Ferrari luring Newey.

BBC Sport - Ferrari: Ross Brawn visited ex-team's Maranello base on holiday

He is simply on holiday... :)

"A Ferrari spokesman also said Brawn's visit was "simply an Italian fantasy tour with friends scheduled for some time".
Brawn said the group tried out two Ferrari road cars, including the new LaFerrari hypercar, at Ferrari's Fiorano test track.
He said his trip was focused on visiting some of the route used by the historic Mille Miglia race across Italy "and as many vineyards as possible".
Talking to Italy's Gazzetta Dello Sport newspaper, he added that his visit to Ferrari was "out in the open".

Maybe we should use sabbatical instead of retirement? For us 'old timers' (30+yrs following F1) we all know that in F1 never say never as the unthinkable can happen at the drop of a hat.

    There ya go.

That said I don't get all the fuss over Brawn: Mattiaci did a stellar job and hoisted Alonso onto the podium. Instant improvement over Domenicali. :p

I so hope that Ross comes back.

Ferrari need everything that he seems to bring. Authority, vision, logic and someone that can think outside the box.

Luca better have made him a financial offer he can't refuse, along with the complete control of the F1 division.

Yeah, and the Mercedes was no good when Brawn was in the team. It was even worse when that Schumacher guy was driving it! :p

Maybe we need Lauda and Wolff at Ferrari?!

Rumour in the paddock has it Newey has received an offer from Ferrari (again). Could there be a dream team happening? Brawn + Newey + Alison + Vettel + Kimi (if the Alonso rumour is true)...

I don't believe Newey would ever go to the Scuderia.

Under the right circumstances he might. He doesn't want to live in Italy but now with the technology and very fast internet, it might just be possible to have the design center in the UK and the rest in Maranello. Whether he looks at the test tunnel results on a screen in Maranello or in the UK is irrelevant...

Back with John Barnard they tried it but the technology wasn't there yet.

To be truly a dream team it needs the Hulk instead of Kimi

I'm still hopeful on Kimi getting around the car properly.

Don't forget it's designed to a lot of Alonso's liking. It's quite understeery which Alonso loves, and Kimi hates.

That said the Hulk the sulk would be a fantastic addition to the team.

Im in that camp. Hopefully Kimi comes around and Alonso stops making him look bad. Hulk would be a great addition.

I'm really wishing Ferrari had signed Hamilton when He was on the market.

According to Turrini, Brawn has said no to a full time job back at Ferrari but is open to the idea of part time consultant. No decision made yet.

Binotto will be promoted to head the engine dept. and a few Merc engineers have joined recently. Tombazis remains CD. Pat Fry might yet go and so might Rivola.

Guys, I thought Rory Byrne worked as a consultant or whatever for this failed FIAT project...no?

Let's hope this is true. There were photos of him at Williams celebrating his career's accomplishments. It seems they're courting him for a role at Williams.

Evidently they had him focus too much on the LaFerrari and not the F1 car.

The drivers are not the problem. They already have WDC- and WCC-worthy drivers.

Oh! Are you sure about this? I remember very clearly last year, or the previous year, he mentioned that he has little input into the 2013 F1 car but full focus on the 2014 F1 car..

I recall the same - and had some high hopes for this year's car. :(

Never heard a mention of him working on road cars with ridiculous model names. ;)

IMO Mattiacci is a placeholder until Brawn arrives for next season
