    Something does not compute. You're upset when someone uses your F40 for a scam, but when being accused of murder and child molesting, you take things lighthearted? Could you explain your reasoning?

    Computes just fine for a number of reasons.

    It's not as if "Mark" just popped up out of the blue and started spouting crazy allegations against me. Were that the case, then yeah -- I'd have a problem with that.

    But that's not what happened. "Mark" tried to run a con, I called BS, and at the point where he realized my efforts (along with those of the people who alerted me to the ad) were sufficient to kill the facade, he pulled down his con website and replaced it with something retaliatory and absurd. The fact that he did so shows just how under his skin I got, and that gives me a wonderful sense of Schadenfreude.

    Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a felon, nor a child molester, and that I'd never be capable of First Degree Murder. Second Degree? Sure. But First? No way. :)

    And even those who don't know me can look at Mark's ridiculous reactionary display and clearly see it for what it is: a ridiculous reactionary display.

    The primary difference, BigoDino, is that Mark really was trying to convince people that my car was for sale in an attempt to steal from them. But he's not really trying to convince people that I'm a "fellon." He's just lashing out in retaliation for me handing him his ass.

    The former is fraud. The latter is merely the knee-jerk reaction of a dumb criminal.

    Which doesn't bother me at all.

    IIRC falsely calling someone a Felon or Child Molester is Libel and slander. And pretty serious defamation at that.. you could very very easily file a legal action against them.

    How stoopid can you get? Have the Nevada AG take a look at the page before he takes it down.

    Technically, the web page is libel and the phone recording is slander. Libel is always written, while slander is always spoken.

    Also, in order to file legal action, I'd have to know who he really is, where he really is, and then file suit in that venue. I highly doubt he's actually in NV. I actually doubt that he's even in the US. He was just using VoIP phone account with a NV number. He's clearly not bright, but he at least used a domain privacy service and phone numbers that are difficult to trace unless you're law enforcement.

    But I don't actually feel damaged by his accusations, and so don't feel like wasting law enforcement's time trying to track this guy down beyond a quick check to see if he's actually in Ely (and the Sheriff's office is certain he's not). If the accusations were made with more seriousness, or in a way that was actually damaging or truly trying to convince people that I'm that kind of person (like if he'd convinced a reporter to write a story in a newspaper), I'd be more fired up about it. But this is just an idiot ranting on a web page who's butthurt about losing a fight. :)

    Then you come back, and (to use your 'turn of phrase') BOOM! False Accusations! Wow!

    I couldn't careless about your relationship or lack of with 'Mark.' Doesn't matter. What does matter is that you're being combative, argumentative, and ridiculous in your posts, directly accusing someone of being a convicted felon when there isn't a shred of truth to the statement.

    I find this to be disruptive to the board and uncalled for.

    I didn't claim that intelligence is measurable by the car a person drives... I was making a tongue-in-cheek comment about Steve based on my research on him through Linked In and a number of other sites.

    Since you, yourself, said you were ready to be banned... here you go...

    48 hours for a personal attack, again, against another member of the site (stating that Steve is a convicted felon when he isn't), and another 28 days because I want to.

    You are a much more compassionate person than I with mean spirited scum. I'll end with kindly suggesting that perhaps calling or emailing [email protected].. to at least get the hosting provider to pull down the site if not done yet. ICANN rules do allow a hosting provider to pull down a website.. ... perhaps just to maintain protocol? :)

    Hi Mike,

    I've read this entire thread because of the curiosity I have to how the situation with Steve's car turns out (first read about it a day or two ago in another email list). I support the permanent ban (not that I have any say in the matter....) because he posted here in a very combative manner at least three separate times (the "three strikes" rule).

    But what I wonder is if it can really be enforced? What's to prevent him from creating a new FChat account with a different screen name and jumping right back in? Just curious is all....

    We (the Moderator team) do occasional checks using information only available to us to see if previously-banned users have re-registered under a different user name. In the Moderator Forum, we have lists of names that we all check on from time to time.

    Most of the time, though, a leopard never changes his spots... it doesn't take long for an abusive, combative, disruptive user to return to his abusive, combative, disruptive ways.
