Hello all! New owner of a 2013 458 Spider. I have approximately 5,000 miles on the vehicle. When the car is in automatic mode (any mannetino setting) it up and downshifts completely fine. However today it has started to miss behave. Upon manual shifting (any mannetino setting) it is extremely jerky. Upon downshifting on occasion their is a loud squeak, almost sounding like the tires sliding. Obviously it is the same gear box no matter if I am in automatic/manual mode, perhaps a software issue? Thank you, Chris
I'm not sure if I understand your situation correctly. When you put the car to "manual shifting", the shifts are harder and you can feel them a little bit on your neck. Also when you upshift near the readline you will note a little sound between shifts. I have not noticed that little sound(squeak) on downshifts. Can you note that squeak easily? If your dealer is close to you I will recommend to go for a general review to your car. Keep us informed. Good luck!
Hey guys, I am familiar with the little noise you are mentioning. Upon downshifting it is not the normal noise. It is like the tires are locking up and sliding. The gear shifts are also extremely violent, it feels rougher than a gen 1 gallardo.
My '11 lets out a mild squeak once in awhile, very rarely. Shifting is more aggressive in race mode. All this is normal.
As the post says any mannetinno setting, I've put around 5,000 miles on the car in the two months I have had it. As of yesterday it is behaving extremely erratic. To the point where it is unbearable to drive. It is shifting far more violently than a gen 1 gallardo, if you have ever driven one it is one of the most unpleasant driving experiences ever.
Try this: When you shift up or down, try to flick the paddle faster, very fast. This way it won't jerk when up-shift and the down-shift will sound like gun shot.
The 458 and California have a DCT, there is no clutch wear. Got the red light gear box error today and "catalytic converter temp not plausible" lights. Funny as I got the catalytic converter not plausible light in my 13" california as well, for a non gearbox related issue.
Its a gearbox failure issue, not a driving style issue. Will be taking it into Boardwalk hopefully tomorrow for a proper diagnosis.
For Ferrari cars, if you are out of warranty and the car has a problem, do dealers give free estimate to repair? Last time I had a Mercedes SUV, the repair would cost $2,000 but the estimation alone was already $700. Even if I ended up repairing it in the dealer, I still had to pay the $700 + $2,000.
Not a red light gear box error here but I got the catalytic temp not plausible once some time ago,I talked with some friends that had the same and all of us have opened the engine compartment after a drive, then started the car again and thats the momment when it appears and in a few second went away. Any of us had anexplanation for this, there is a mechanical reason?
I don't know if this will help or not but here is the thread with diagnosis from when I had the error message on my California. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/california/449811-banks-running-different-richnesses-13-cali.html
Update as to where we are in the process: 1. Car came into us with the concerns the OP listed in his first post. 2. We were able to pull codes and confirm on a short test drive exactly what was stated. 3. We were able to confirm 1 hard fault ( P1977 ) and 4 ( P2440, P2442, P198E, P197D ) soft faults. 4. Following FNA direction we: Performed a Proxy alignment , Valve body clean, E-Diff Clean, Gear box re initialization, and a NCR cycle test. 5. Performing the above allowed us to confirm which component was performing as designed. 6. As P1977 was still current, that indicated that we would need to replace the SAP ( gearbox valve body ) which is supplied by FNA as a complete kit. We have FNA technical approval for the repair as of this past Friday afternoon. We are now waiting on FNA warranty approval to order the kit. Once the kit arrives, I would expect the car to be back on the road within 4-5 business days. I will take pictures along the way and share as requested! S Intermittent initial codes: P2440 : SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE STUCK OPEN (ABOVE MAXIMUM THRESHOLD) P2442 : SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM SWITCHING VALVE STUCK CLOSED - (MAX) (ABOVE MAXIMUM THRESHOLD) P198E : L2_SG10_BLOCKED_REAR_AXLE TOO LOW (REAR BLOCKED AXLE RISK DURING SHIFT) (BELOW MINIMUM THRESHOLD) P197D : APP_SYNCHRO_4TH TOO HIGH (4TH GEAR CONTROL FAULT CAN'T REACH) (ABOVE MAXIMUM THRESHOLD)
Thank you so much Steve! So the SAP is a full kit, the entire gearbox? I'll be back stateside the 1st and give you guys a ring.
SAP Kit= Valve Body, the mechanical / electrical "control center" of the gear box will be replaced. I attached a picture of an example ( NOT yours ) below, S Image Unavailable, Please Login
