Because that would be massively overstating his abilities...

He can say whatever he wants, but the record still reflects him being outscored threefold by his teammate. Not much changed since his departure from Ferrari.

I assume by prime you mean Massa before his accident?

He was ok then, typical #2 like Irvine.

Ferraris mistake was that they didn't sack him after his accident. He wasted years in that 2nd seat doing nothing, just as he is now at Williams.

Irvine did the same btw at Jaguar. The difference between Irvine and Massa is that Eddie is way cool.

Why did Ferrari always hire very weak #2s? Such that when Michael is injured you have no one to take home the bacon unless you have a very strong car like the F2000 and F2001. How would Hakkinen have done if he was paired up with Schumacher in the Benetton instead of Herbert or Lehto? How would any of today's champions like Vettel or Alonso have stacked up against late 90s to early 2000s Schumacher?

Enough questions for a new thread :)

Irvine would have won the title in 99 if Ferrari had put on 4 wheels at Nuerburgring. He came super close to the title without FIA gifting him any points.

Two strong #1 drivers rarely works. Normally a great #1 with a reliable #2 does the job better. Irvine at Ferrari and Massa before the accident fit that profile.

Alonso today versus MS early 2000s would be a battle for the ages. 2006 was an epic fight but MS was old by then and Alonso hadn't peaked yet so it's not completely representative.

Both are a cut above Vettel at any point in his career, IMO. I can't imagine Michael or Alonso losing to Daniel Ricciardo under any circumstances.

Neither can i, but of course both Alonso and Michael had help when they needed to tame team mates.....Briatore screwed Herbert when he realized he could drive as fast as Shumi, and Briatore did the same to trulli when he realized the italian was faster than his golden boy....

    It's the tradition.

For some reason Todt didn't want Alesi to partner Shumacher....that would have been really fun if there was no interference and they where alowed to fight it...

Alonso has not peaked yet, when he won 2 titles already? Interesting, when did he peak then?

    Kinda as we thought....

McLaren: Magnussen 100% blameless | Planet F1 | Formula One | News, Standings, Results, Features, Video

Magnussen and Massa crashed out on the first lap of the German Grand Prix on Sunday and although the stewards investigated the incident they decided not take any action.

However, Williams driver Massa didn't hesitate to point the finger at Magnussen saying "I was in front, I was doing the corner in front of him".

He then gave some advice to Formula One's "young drivers" saying they need "to understand that you cannot win the race at the first corner" and also urged the Dane to "just take it easy".

However, Boullier says his driver didn't do anything wrong.

"The stewards' report related to Felipe's driving and nothing else," he said during the latest McLaren phone-in.

"There was a driving conduct investigation, and they decided to impose no penalty on Felipe, which is their prerogative.

"But the report makes it clear that Kevin was 100 percent blameless, certainly."

As expected by nearly all F1 fans, the #2 Williams driver, Massa, was blown away in qualifying today by his teammate, the #1 Williams driver, Bottas, when Bottas lapped 0.8 seconds faster. That's a lifetime in F1 - and Massa, the slower driver with only 30 points this season compared to his rookie faster teammate with 91 points, really does suck. Last year he held Ferrari back - this year he's holding Williams back.

Next year he'll again be slower than his new teammate. Kobyashi.

I hope for Massa/Williams this gap will not continue. They recently signed him till end 2016.

With Alonso ''free to leave'' as per contract, it is one of the teams he very well could go to (if he decides to leave).

Massa seems to be on a 5 year strategy

Always be slower than your teammate.

Massa is saying the he wants to beat Alonso this race - and is lining up alongside him on the grid.

Will Massa and Alonso collide at the first corner?

Is so, will Massa claim that he had the racing line to the corner and the contact was Alonso's fault?
