He should see what happens next year since its James Allisons first full year to work on the car. If it sucks again I would leave. I hate seeing the best driver of this generation fighting for mere points.

    Stay.
There's still something very special about winning in a Ferrari. Particularly in a second tier Ferrari.

Leave and go where? What makes anyone think that the Mclaren Honda pairing will be fireworks first of all? Mercedes have two good drivers. Red Bull don't look so great suddenly...Unless it's Williams...

Having said so, i think Fred will give Ferrari 2015 a last chance, before he does move to Red Bull, IF..if Vettel goes the other way round.

It's up to Ferrari to bring the right car to the table. I would be very disappointed, in fact distraught, if fernando were to leave. He is clearly the best driver on the grid by a margin (I know, some are faster over one particular lap maybe, but all of them have flaws making them inconsistent) and has a never say die attitude which enables him to drive thru problems and obtain results out of the reach of ANY of the current drivers were they in his position. Think of kimi, known for being a damn fast driver out the box, but he still can't drag the Ferrari into anything like the position Alonso does every race. Hambone would fare the same, very quick on a lap, but if there are problems to drive around, we'd just get a lot of comedy radio traffic of him blaming Everyman and his dog about why he can't deliver in the car, rather than any type of result.

Anyone wishing for fernando to leave needs to look around, unless you are willing to put someone in the car and wait a couple years for the results to come thru, such as a bianchi or a bottas, the only way Ferrari will perform well without a massive car improvement is fernando's continued prescence. Give him a car within 10% of the best on the track and he will stuff the competition into the ground and win championships

As for the McLaren situation, it was not fernando that caused the problems there, it was the teams underhand spying, and Ron's insistence that his little protege Hamilton was Molly coddled that caused them to lose Alonso...... put yourselves in his shoes just once, you arrive at a team signed as a double world champion, promised the earth, and then you are expected to nurture a teammate that your boss is telling everyone will be the next champion, ie, your worst enemy...... Wouldn't you take opportunities to stunt that development a bit and make the little dipstick work harder and try to extend your reign as champ? I would, and you would too. Vettel doesn't exactly try his best to help Ricardo does he (mind you, Danny doesn't seem to need much help!)

Ferrari needs him to stay, that much is obvious (and not the question in this thread;)). A driver surely must have his own best interests first though, and that is winning championships.

I dislike Alonso, everyone knows that, but it'll be a shame to see someone of his talent walk away with only 2 titles.

Maybe karma is real ;) :D.

The biggest issue with that (still) is, if Ferrari give him a car that is 3rd in constructors, it's going to cost Alonso cash to leave, instead of being allowed to go. Where the car is now, and the potential it has to finish outside the top 3, Alonso has the chance to leave without it costing him money.

I'm not saying that in 2015 Mclaren will be amazing, but 2016 it should be a contender. Similar to what Merc has been doing since 2012. Collect great engineers/designers. Feed them money and a good work area. The results will come. Honda comes with a sack full of money so can pay for a lot of stuff. Alonso there, with Santander in tow...Mclaren will be a serious force.

Reading it again, I think Ian is confused (or I still am).

Is Vizsla referring to Mclaren or Ferrari?

Alonso should probably leave & go to Red Bull if Seb goes to Mercedes.

He should leave. His talent makes the team look less bad than they have been the past few years :/
