OMG!! now that you mention it.....i just realized my CEL doesn't show up upon start up! Thanks.....I'll plug in my OBD2 scanned over the weekend to check it out....what codes where you getting for the misfire?

If the misfire shook the whole car, aren't you worried that it may have damaged your motor internally?

    Thanks in advance

I stopped driving it when it started having the misfires. There were no codes from the misfires. I think I only ran it a couple times for a few minutes each time while diagnosing the issue before I replaced the wires.

When I first got the car, it turned out that all 4 of my O2 sensors were bad, the CEL was missing (which also throws a code), the cat temperature ECUs were all throwing codes due to dirty/bad connections, and the MAF was causing a P0102. They were all pretty simple fixes except for the P0102. It took me 4 years to finally figure that one out.

    WOW!

Its funny you mention that because my "slow sown" light appears at idle but then shuts off as I get on the highway or start driving, I guess because there is more flow going through the cats.

I have fabspeed headers, and tubi exhaust, and I think my cats are gutted, because the car stinks like its running too rich.

Maybe it is running rich causing your stumbling motor and wet plugs. I would definitely be interested in what codes come up. I bet your O2 sensors are also shot and it's running open loop.

im not sure what "open loop" means, or if its bad.....but I will certainly come back here with the codes my OBD2 comes up with.

So I guess I shouldn't drive the car until I settle this miss fire at idle.....Its soooo weird, i bought the car yesterday, and drove it back home (3hr drive) and the car ran GREAT on the highway, but just as i got off the highway close to home at the red lights I was getting this jab/pop/knock....really scared me, i thought there was something wrong inside the motor.

Ok, well........looks lik I got lots of work to do. The Previous owner clearly must have pulled the bulb on the CEL, or it simply burnt out, as I has SERVERAL codes after plugging in my OBD2 scanner.

    I'll start looking them up one by one, but i imagine many of them must be emissions related, due to my fabspeed headers and tubi exhaust. There must be a few that are pertinent to the misfires;

    P1128
    P1448
    P0432
    P1117
    P1121
    P1445
    P1691
    P1124
    P0130
    P0422
    P1449
    P0154
    P0160
    P0153

Here is a summary of your codes. Did you get the car checked out before you bought it? You should get a compression and leakdown test done if not. I am concerned about the wet plugs. If you have problems there, then if you replace the O2 sensors, they will just go bad again.

P1691 (This is the missing CEL)

These are probably from bad or no cats. You may have bad thermocouple ECU's as well.

P0422 Main Catalyst Efficiency (Bank 1)
P0432 Main Catalyst Efficiency (Bank 2)
    P1445 Catalyst Temperature (Bank 1)
    P1449 Catalyst Temperature (Bank 2)

This could be an issue with the bypass valve or the vacuum solenoid. On mine the electrical contacts to the solenoid were dirty:

    P1448 Catalyst Bypass Flap Circuit

These are bad O2 sensor related:

P0130 02 Sensor Circuit (Upstream Catalyst) (Bank 1, Sensor 1) Malfunction
P0153 02 Sensor Circuit (Upstream Catalyst) (Bank 2, Sensor 1) Slow Response
P0154 02 Sensor Circuit (Upstream Catalyst) (Bank 2, Sensor 1) No Activity
P0160 02 Sensor Circuit (Downstream Catalyst) (Bank 2, Sensor 2) No Activity
P1117 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Downstream Cat) (Bank 1, Sensor 2) Short to Ground
P1121 02 Sensor Heater Circuit (Downstream Cat) (Bank 2, Sensor 2) Short to Ground

These may go away with the repair of the above items. If not, they can be examined later:

P1124 Long Term Fuel Trim Additive Air - System too lean
P1128 Manufacturer Control Fuel Air Metering

By the way, you should probably start a new thread with this so that other experts may chime in rather than ignoring the thread because of my original subject line.
