Freeman, When I bought the car from FAF in Dec. of 1982 (Jan. '83 delivery), I found that the speedometer had been changed, and two of the smaller gauges were Italian-language. The actual mileage was not known by FAF. The driver's door U.S. build tag was missing, and there were no original owner's manuals, tools or jack. FAF provided a photocopy of the main owner's manual at my request. The original backup light assembly was not on the car, and a large rectangular driving light had been installed in its place. Front fender bulkheads and chassis splash shields were fabricated by my body man. I spent many years making things right on the car, as best I could. I had all-new door window-frame stainless trim made, had a new windshield and left door skin fitted, and re-did the interior and chrome. The catalog listing mentions that the car had been painted white at one time. That is also incorrect. I had it painted silver before it was stripped for the Rosso Fiorano repaint. Initially, I had the car shipped this past May to Algar for mechanical work, as they had done extensive work on my other Dino last year, with great results. I noticed a beautiful Tdf 458 Spider on their website, and negotiated a purchase with the Dino as partial trade. That pretty much sums up how 03964 left my ownership. Fred

I'd be pretty jacked out of shape if I spent $300K plus on a car at a supposed reputable auction house, to then find out this correct information afterward.

The photo's are up now and the car looks fantastic in this colour IMHO. It looks like they have done an amazing restoration in a very short space of time.

That's a nice green. Very period, and not quite as out there as verde germoglio. Reminds me of hotwheels cars I had during that time.

*sigh* Fantastic. Imagine if it was an orig C+F and Euro spec?!
Now THAT would be close to perfection...
Add RHD to the equation and bingo! Perfection!!! :)

Honestly, other than not being a matte paint, it looks very similar to the green Ferrari currently has used for their Hybrid show cars.

So why in 1986, would someone paint this car "re-sale red" with only 7122 miles on it?

Remember that picture of Dino and Daytona body shells sitting outside for the winter outside the Ferrari factory, waiting to be used?

Yes, I remember. Now I get it. Thanks for the reminder!

I guess I got lucky. They must have stored my shell inside. No "obvious" rust........yet.

Because people didn't appreciate the period colors then...all the unusual and "1970s colors" were considered out of style. The 1980s (and 90s) people wanted red Ferraris. It happened to Porsches as well where everything started being painted Guards Red.

Actually the car was painted Fly yellow for a few years before it was painted red. And, while to each his own on any color choice, personally, I resent the very term re-sale red. It's an insult to those who actually want a red car regardless of the year, make or model. Not all cars painted red are done for a sale. The red paint work on 8454 was done to a very high standard. Not a quicky resale spray.

That said, It look's better than I expected in the restoration to original Verde.

Of course the auction description also contains a few errors. They don't seem to pay that much attention to detail when they write these things. However, they don't really affect what the car is either.

Got to check out all the cars at Bonham's yesterday. The 206 is tucked away in same tent as the no-reserve 250 GTO they have, so I wasn't able to inspect up close. Even with a (complementary wrist band), it didn't seem `correct' to jump up on its platform and start opening various doors & lids.

1974 DINO 246GTS Chairs and Flairs, SN 08280, Exterior: Silver, Interior: Red
    Est $400-475k
    Bonhams : 1974 FERRARI DINO 246GTS Chassis no. 08280

Very `rough' condition. I noticed at least one hose clamp that was so loose, I could've scooped it for my collection. Clearly their trying to push this for it's `originality'. See pics attached.

1972 DINO 246GT, SN 03964, Exterior: Rosso Rubino, Interior: Burgundy
    Est $290-330k
    Bonhams : 1972 FERRARI DINO 246GT Chassis no. 03964

Very `pretty' car, with covered headlights and a nice paint job. But what are they thinking?...spare wheel and tire doesn't match the other 4. Engine light switch dangling out of its holder. And what's with all these trashed trunk batchboards?
