Already mentioned in this thread (post #96) : https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/f1/455147-why-giant-runoff-areas-instead-gravel-traps-5.html
I find it ironic that the iconic Parabolica has received a tarmac runoff to satisfy the trend just when the Italian GP at Monza is under threat.
Gerhard Berger said recently in an interview: 'they try to make F1 the new G1 series'.... F1 goes from bad to worse..
This is what it looks like now: http://t.co/SbAEbRWmzL No need to cry, everyone. Also this should be merged with the other thread...
well, how many of you have driven that course? i drove it and it scared the **** out of me. not having a wall at parabolica would suit me just fine.
in 09 he was racing for ferrari, perhaps it was 08 in FORCE INDIA, very minor incident. when was there a major crash? do we really have to have tarmac for run off, for this turn?
One good thing came from all this: They are now also rebuilding the banked turns. Not to hold races on them, but to preserve them for posterity. Just 10 years ago they wanted to get rid of them. Luckily the fans intervened.
Totally off topic but: I've heard mixed things about whether we can go out to the banking (I'll be at Monza this year for the first time). Can we or can't we? I really want to if we can!
I'll be there too. In the past it was illegal to go there. Probably still is. That said this is Italy and you could probably sneak in. But for what? You walk right underneath it and will be able to see it from a few yards away.
I've been there several times - usually during the race the south banking is less secure. the north banking is off limits at all times during the race. south banking is pretty much on its own - i hoppe the fence - there are several fences that cover the banking ... kinda mickey mouse. as you get closer to the pit straight there is more security that being said it is amazing how steep and small the banking is.. it looks huge on tv and pictures but its pretty tight and would be terrifying at speed... I'd love to try it!
