I used to make fun of the NYC guys on the Corvette forum than never got the sport suspension, then one day on the way to Connecticut I accidentally crossed the George Washington in my C6 with Z51; I thought it was going to fall apart.
So true, when in daily driver, no problem, but when in a car that has a less compliant suspension that is when one realizes actual road conditions.
Took off for an early morning pre work drive. Best way to start a Friday. Well first I had to put some air in the rear wheels as I just rotated them. Heb air not working. Shell air not working. Buckee's air working but for $1.25! But hey it takes credit cards and has a setting so no need for my air gauge. So lost 30 mins shortens the drive. I decide to take 290 up to the outlet mall then the feeder rd. not sure why but at the last second I dive off the feeder rd and back toward home. One block later she dies at a 4 way stop. Fuel pump is dead. Pull fuse cover and pull fuse and burn hole in my thumb. ouch! Swap a pretty hot 8a panel fuse back in and instant blown fuse. Of course I forgot my phone. Texans are friendly and someone calls aaa. 40 mins. Ok there is a nice little park at this intersection so I will wait for tow. People snap photos of dead Ferrari with hazards flashing. Don't see that everyday. Oh no. Cops! First question. Is that a delorean? No! It's a Ferrari! Is that the one from magnum pi? No! That was red! What color is yours? Marrone metalizzato. What? Brown! Ok you are blocking traffic (not really) so we are going to call a wrecker. You can pay him cash to take you home. $75. Wrecker takes me home on flatbed. Wrecker says he tows exotics all the time. Gave me card to an exotic shop in spring. Get home and wife is giggling. Daughter (2) says daddy your race car is broken. Wife laughs uncontrollably. OH THE HUMILIATION! Wrecker backs it into garage. Wrecker get $20 tip. Think I will start a thread on fuel pump diagnosis.
After being detoured due to road repaving I took my 308 where none should go. Dirt roads, crush stone paths etc. only in WV would they send you on a detour on logging roads in the mountains. So, spent the morning cleaning and detailing the exterior and engine compartment. The car was completely covered inside and out with a fine white powder. Uhhhhggg.
I had broken the mount that attaches the euro vitaloni side mirror to the door, so took it off to a local metal fab place who did a great job in fixing it. Found out that these particular euro style side mirrors with the power mirror are unobtainable and were also used on the countach and several other exotics as well, so will be more careful now around these mirrors.
Replaced blown fuse for the clock/ lighter and then took a 100 mile spirited jaunt through the Amish countryside. I know I know. Tough day. After my return Sent from my DROID RAZR
Finished the wheel bearing job started yesterday. Went to 2NA to borrow a tool and ended up doing all of the hub work at his garage. It's good to have a friend like that. It's raining now but looking forward to not hearing the bearings in a blender sound. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Went for a 2 hour drive this morning. 8 years of ownership and the 308 still excites me. Golly I like this car.
Did the same. Perfect weather before noon here. Got to really let her rip, open top, smooth roads. It was a total mind cleanse.
To remove my alternator. Wow, I didn't know a cut 17mm wrench had so many uses on the 308! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Fixed the earthing issues with the headlights and indicators/parking lights. The earthing on the indicators/parking lights is quite interesting....
Can you explain what you did? I just cleaned the engine ground strap. I'm looking to improve the grounds all around.
Sure. The earthing wires are just being 'pinched' by the globe holder (not the best method...)These wires can get damp and you'll end up with a non working light. Just gently pull the grounding wire, gently clean and coat with petroleum jelly and push back in(use a jewelers screwdriver or similar) That will fix poor grounding and protect it from dampness... -Dave.
Had the coilover ride height adjusted, raised up a bit as the deep front spoiler was dragging everywhere. Also fitted stock size 16" tires as the oversized tires were grabbing the inner fender lips. I'm still not sold on the coilover set up, I feel that my previous '81 2Vi with a fully restored stock suspension handled better. Took her for a 30 mile drive and so far so good. The spoiler still drags on the exit of my driveway with a passenger though....
Pressurized the brake system to bleed the brakes and the driver side sensor cap started leaking on the reservoir! Found that the cap was cracked from overtightening. Epoxied it, but it still leaks! Must be the diaphram...new unit on the way from TRutlands. Ugh; was suppose to be a quick brake fluid change! Oh well, better to find it now then on some road trip! : )
I have been having a blast with the gt4 since the FCA Concours, mostly running errands taking my kid to various places going to a dinner with my wife or just running her to and from work. Last week we had dinner with some friends one of whom was getting ready to leave for Italy. It was about 45 miles each way and the gt4 was great. The next day at work a fellow worker told me I should have been out with him and his family for dinner the night before. He told me there were some of those cars I had... "Alfer Romeros, and there was a red Ferrari and a black Lamborghini too!" I told him the four Alfa Romeos belonged to some of our friends, the red "Ferrari" was my dentist's Masaerati Bora and the black "Lamborghini" was my Dino 308gt4... He now wants to go for a ride so I guess I'm going to have to drive the Dino to work one day.
