Likely the Ghibli was shipped out for 'work' or after a wreck and the then new Khamsin was brought in under its' identity. Venezuela has a rich car gistory, and the practice was not un-common, look in the vintage Ferrari section. Venezuela also certainly wasn't alone in these practices: I came close to buying a 512 BBi in Holland that turned out to bear a much older BB chassis number. Lucky escape, that car stood in the customs impound for a long time. Best, Jack.

Hi Jack, Mark, -Yes lots went on in Venezuela including someone who crashed their Miura when almost new, sent it back to the factory who just out its chassis plate on a new SV and sent it right back. -A Khamsin at salon prive: Doug my publisher was invited to display his Khamsin at the salon prive event, a very upscale event in a private club in London. It is part of a very nice group of Maseratis selected to highlight the 100th: 2014 Entrants | Salon Privé London | Page 3 Good bit of attention under the spotlight for the K Best regards, MS
Good afternoon Gentlemen, What's the current purchase price for a very good condition, manual Khamsin? Something like the pictures below. Just curious. The pics are of a locally owned Khamsin. I'm not sure of the model year, but it's very nicely sorted and maintained by Dave Burnham Citroen. The tail lights are "in the glass". It looks great. I don't know the chassis #, but have really enjoyed seeing it in and out of Dave's shop. Cheers, - Art Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Oh dear, probably headed to Europe now that you've outed it! LOL :d Not many left here Art and that one looks pretty nice.
6 o'clock News Toronto Ontario Canada becomes home for 4 of these lovely cars. All will be within 20 miles of each other. Party Time Cheers Mark
Really... $140K to $230K US Dollars for a Khamsin??????? If this is correct, I may be afraid to drive mine!!! I would like to hear more commentary on this..... Mike
As I said try and find one. Lets say you really wanted one. There is one listed on Anamera for 92,500 EUR (122k us funds ) located in the Netherlands just listed this month. US spec car with ugly bumpers. Get it shipped and buy and install bumpers what are you into? Another one is coming for auction in Sept in the UK if it sells for top dollar as listed a $132K plus Buyer's Premium then shipping back to US what are you into. Maserati ( Bora Khamsin ) cars are becoming like Dodo birds in North America Cheers Mark
A not so bad, but not that nice Bora in US specs, modified slightly in Euro specs just sold to a dealer for 125,000 €.
I'm still seeing Boras. We had three @ Pocono this year 1st time ever we had that many! There was a decent selection @ Concourso, all terrific looking cars too. 2 Khamsins I think? But Khamsins ARE like hens teeth.
So what's the verdict on K prices here in the US?? If we assume there are 25 - 30 left in the US, and 4 in Canada, that gives us under 40 here in North America.. Marc: you are an avid fan of these cars, what are your thoughts on numbers and prices here in North America? (Hope all is well with you, by the way!)... Mike
Then, in the not too distant future, we may see Khamsin's travel the other way? You guys in the US were caught napping! Best, Jack.
Hi Guys, I have not posted for a while. Hope your all well and actually driving your cars? Anyway, I decided I should be using my K as my DD. My office is fairly close to where I live and sadly through town. However I need to travel about a bit due to the nature of my work so it gives me the chance to use the car a bit more than a boring short commute. It is a car, designed for everyday use and therefore in itself this shouldn't be interesting news! However, not being a rich person, I have never had a car of this new equivalent value as my DD. Hence it is fun to use these old cars in that way and have a bit of the good life! A 40 year old design is never going to compare to a modern car in terms of build or practicality or economy for a commuter car. 12-14mpg for a commuter car isn't easy unless you are very rich. However some indulgence is justified to enrichen life! On Thursday I went to Petrolheads months dinner, which I organise. We had about 30 people there. Some Police on bikes passed by as we were milling about after dinner kicking tyres to find out what we were doing. The first car they asked about was the K! It provoked a lot of interest as usual, in particular the deep baritone exhaust bellow. A mate followed me home in his 993 4S. We had a good 100-110 duck and dive through the traffic. Whilst his car is more stable and easier to drive, it simply couldn't keep pace, as the K when driven hard can leave most cars in mid range up to 110. Today, I had a mate around, who has a Ghibili SS, among other lovely cars. We went out driving in all my old cars and had a great day. His take on the K was quite interesting. He thought the noise was amazing and deeper the G. Performance about the same. Handing and ride better. He thought it much more of a sports car than his G which is GT. I think the K is a GT! Well my Espada is better at that, although it actually handles better and much flatter. Of all my cars he liked the noise of the K best. I tend to agree. The countach QV is savage, brutal a real thug. It gives off an amazing noise, but the K is deep baritone, classy. Pavarotti compared to Metalica! The main thing I find with the car is the general sense of well being when driving it. All nice expensive cars should give you that. Very like the new Bentley's GT and Spur and Rolls Royces which are just lovely to sit in, although the K is better to drive! One area where I always appreciate the K is its looks. Since seeing one in the metal in 78 I still think it is one of the most beautiful cars ever made. Like the Countach, you can just stand and admire it! Eye candy for Petrolheads! So lets hear your driving stories! Paul
Not much if a driving story, but a buyers story I like to remember: I went to have a look at a Khamsin that was priced fairly low, but was advertised as in very good condition. It was a 10 hours drive from where I live, so the lurking feeling that I was spending two days to look at a superlemon was present untill we arrived and had a good look at the car: it was within an inch of being mint: unoriginal colour (but a very nicely done respray) and a tired exhaust system aside, it was perfect. No leaks or rattles, everything worked, tight handling, sharp as a knife and clean and well presented. So why the low price? On the test drive I discovered that the engine would overheat. Not when idling, not while accelerating, only when pottering around at normal speed. I just could not get my head around the problem, and my friend who was buying the car, decided to take the plunge and buy it anyway. Now the worst thing I know is overheating cars, and a ten hour drive over the mountains in an overheating Khamsin is not my idea of fun. But off we went. After monitoring the temperatur gauge for 15-20 minutes, it finally struck me: if it keeps cool when it stands still, overheats when driving normally, but cools again when driving hard??? I stopped, switched polarities on the radiator fans, and watched the fans start to suck air through the radiator instead of blowing. The remaining trip was the drive of my life. Ten hours over norwegian mountains in a perfect Khamsin. Priceless.
I was finally able to get an electronic copy of the Khamsin parts manual and it is now available for download on my website. http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Parts/Khamsin_parts_manual.pdf Also new to the website are: Early Mistral owner's manual http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Mistral_early.pdf Mistral/QP1 technical bulletin http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Mistral30498.pdf QP1 parts manual http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Parts/QP1_parts_manual.pdf Mexico parts manual supplement (to be used with QP1 parts manual) http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Parts/Mexico_parts_manual.pdf Indy parts manual http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Parts/Indy_parts_manual.pdf Indy 4.7 and 4.9 parts supplement http://thecarnut.com/Manuals/Parts/Indy_parts_supplement.pdf If you have a manual I am missing, please scan it and send me a copy. Great story! My first hard drive in the K was on the road in the western highlands of Scotland, going from Inveraray to Oban following a Noble, with two BMW Z4m's behind me. The Noble was superbly quick but kept braking hard in the damp autumn corners. We quickly lost the Z4M's in a 80-100 blast through amazing scenery and roads. I nearly lost the K in one corner when close to the Noble as he braked so hard as I had to and nearly lost the back sliding towards a long embankment down to a Loch! The car corrected and we powered on! I credit the car not me! Modulating the brakes even after by then a 100 mile drive is tough to get right. My friend who has the ghibili SS didn't want to risk driving the K! lol I think i scared him too much with the brake stories. I re read the tests by LJK Setright and marvel at his views and cornering photos. I met a few journalists recently who knew him well and went on car launches with him. Apparently he was so crazy behind the wheel that no one would car share with him. He overtook in blind corners and had the view that when his time came it came! Others didn't want to share his time! I heard lots of amazing stories of him and the other Car journalists from back then. It is strange, that whilst it is car that one can thrash and make very rapid progress in, it is still the car that i am most apprehensive about driving very fast or at least stopping from very fast speeds. Perhaps my driving skills have diminished too much after years of being toned down. I still wonder if a modern Electronic ignition system and high power coil would transform the engine response at higher revs. Come on guys, tell us your hard drives in these cars. I would love more detail on your Norwegian Mountain drive.
No hard drives yet, but a question: The original gas-stays for the rear hatch don't hold it up, and can't be re-gassed. I'm having a tough time finding replacements with the proper fittings (i.e. the ball on one end). I guess most have replaced theirs, does anyone have a make and maybe a part-number, and does anyone know what pressure they should have? Thanks much, Jack.
