What is the highest mileage you have seen on a 308? Greg at Ron Tonkin Grand Turismo said the highest he had heard of was either 120k or 150k. I recently was shown a calender that had a '77 308 GTB out of Hoquiam Washington with 180k. Anyone know of anything higher?

Mine is about 116000 and still factory sealed. I have put nearly 60000 on it myself since I was in my 20's

May thought was to get a GTS and just rack to miles up to see how high I could go.

400,000 is the most I've heard of and that car is still running today. Then there's Bob Rohalys 83 QV Euro that has over 300,000 and that car is still running great today.

mines near 95K. I don't think she'll hit the magic 100K this year though. x-country road trip anyone? :)

And she's only had one head off for work. Still runs strong. Had her out last night to a local massive car show. She was shown lots of love. A local gas station attendant insisted she was brand new. :)

These are the stories that need to be told far and wide, if only to dispel the notion that a Ferrari 3x8 must have less than 30 - 40K miles, regardless of its age. My 328 will turn 70K miles by month end. Have put 5,000 miles on this past year which includes some 400 - 500 mile weekend road trips. But clearly, I have some catching up to do with the 120K + miles cars.

I saw many but many 3x8 cars in my search: most of them are in the 50-80 k miles range, when you are lucky.

I saw an incredible number of 20 k (or less) displayed miles cars that in my opinion had 120 or 220 k miles, and they were still running.

Those cars are very strong and reliable. My italian mechanic says most of them are well over 60-70 k miles and they will last no less than 200 k miles (320 K km) if the owner just keeps the cooling system checked and does a minimum of not very expensive maintenance.

I'm happy to hear that there are many cars with high mileage: thank you vey much for sharing.

It looks that 328 is the Italian version of Porsche 911 SC, a car that has a reliability like a military vehicle... :)

    ciao

I've got about 114k on my '78 and the head's never been off. I bought this in '94 with about 60k on it.

I am pretty sure I will roll past 80,000 before the end of the month. 79,500 or so right now....

Still a newb by many standards.

I bought it at 63,8XX and I figure those are honest miles - no rollback or anything on the odometer. It also told me when I bought it that the car RAN!! I bought the car to drive it and thats what I have done.

OK, maybe Thread of the Year is too much to ask. But this is the possibly the most enlightening thread I've seen this year, on 3x8's anyway. These cars can be driven more than 1,500 miles per year. Who knew? When the word gets out, we won't be asking those questions about comparative prices for Porsche and Ferrari.

Based on the picture you posted, I'm more interested in the calendar and the curves it features than the mileage ;) Blue is good.

I really enjoy seeing this thread. I, for one, believe these cars deserve to be driven. My QV just turned over 40K and hope to be sitting in it when it turns 200K. Then, when the day comes and she is tired...do a complete refreshing, and start over again!

Bought my 85 qv in 1992 with 22,000 miles. It now has 118,000. I did do a valve job on earlier this year.

Most of my cars are very low mileage, but the dry sump has 88 k miles. The engine has been opened and the heads fully redone at 62 k miles, it looks due to cooling problems.

I once met a guy in Chattanooga who used his 308 as a daily driver and in 2006 had, if I recall correctly, 122,000 miles on it. Now, I've got 108,000 on my 328!

My odometer has been on pause for a while. Time to finish up the projects and get it back on the road.

It’s just as well the 3x8 block and contents are engineered seemingly for longevity because the speedo pick up or sensor is only connected with a simple plug .Located aside the rear RHS behind the rear cam belt cover .
My sensors been a bit temperamental since I’ve cleaned it up ( removed it -one bolt ) it’s beter .
Speedo comes on after the engine warms up now .Really need a new sensor .
There’s threads on here about the ease of fixing them ,

    Buts where’s the motivation ?

Consequently in my book with 308 / 328 ,s you can’t ( folks do of course ) believe the odometer .
I can’t think of another car with such an easy 1 min job of reversibly disconnecting the speedo that’s so price and mileage sensitive.
All you guys with lifts much just reach up under and “ping “ pull the plug before lowering the car
    Absolutely ridiculously easy peasey .

    Sorry chaps I write as I see it and I,am a new to 308 s .
Never bumped into it with the Testarossa or 360 so there mileages shown are credible, but 308 / 328,s you are whistling in the wind .

For completeness mine shows 87000 Kms ( LHD Italian variant 208 ) runs sweet and I have zero concerns .
But iam under no illusion of the huge number of incredible low miles cars out there and there’s simply no way to verify .

Apologies in advance if I’ve inadvertently pricks someone’s bubble.

Service Records can provide credible documentation of mileage accumulation.

I think the main concern regarding mileage fraud is tampering with the tumblers in the speedometer and not so much driving the car with the speedometer disconnected. These cars have only recently increased in value to "collector" levels. You make a good point though that it is another way to keep miles out of the speedometer. Seems like a nusance to drive a car without an operative speedometer.
