I noticed that too. For that money, I'd want the original gearbox, at least.

You could build that car for much less than was spent. Something wierd is going on with a couple cars being sold for huge money. Dan at Classic Jaguar does beautiful cars and I had many of his upgrades on my car, as I wanted to drive the car. But, if I was spending that much money on a e-type I'd want it to be a national show winner. I believe you can still get an incredible series 1 OTS for around 100K, there are lots of e-types out there and many great older restorations.

The S1 OTS' have to be one of the only car models on the planet right now where if you source a quality numbers matching car and buy it fairly you can still be in the money after paying for a legitimate nut and bolt restoration. This makes no sense in the long term and logic says that either prices of the unrestored cars need to rise quite a bit or the prices for the restored cars needs to drop. Of course the sky high auction proces don't apply to every restored car but there are now many data points above $250K and a growing number above $300K.

I have a couple of friends who E-Type fanatics from way back and they don't worship at the alter of originality either. They just enjoy and use their cars. They're not concours type folks. We do have people like that in the Jag club here!

Now Gary is a self acknowledged originality freak. I helped him a bit with some stuff on his Espada in that regard. His Espada is gorgeous too. BUT HIS SHIFT BOOT IS INCORRECT! LOL :D

Car prices have gone crazy. Everything is out of reach now. Back to skateboards for me ...

hahahaha.....what about the "roller racer"? There will now be a run on skateboard wheels. $775,000 for a set of 4. May be time to liquidate? I hear you can still buy a place in Watts or Compton for under half a mil. Retire in style baby.

Yup, it will change. I can recall a decent 67 OTS that fetched $170K at Cole's around 86/87 IIRC. Then...the bottom fell out.

BTW, how is that incredible E of yours doing? Absolutely loved your restoration thread! :)

Thank you for asking. Yes, we're having fun with the car. Here is a picture from a local show. Note that my son needs to learn to fully close the door before the car is to be photographed!

Ha! I taught mine to use the "pinch close" technique :)

Pull the door 'till it makes contact with the jam, then use your fingers (one on the outside chrome, thumb on the inside) to pinch it shut :D

I can't believe it's taken jaguar almost 50 years to have a proper follow up to the Etype. The f-type coupe r is long overdue. It's a great car - If only it wasn't so heavy!

If e type is most beautiful car ever made, then the blue one above is most beautiful e type.

Congratulations. I've always been a fan of primrose. It's such a great 60s color. What year is your car?

    bonnet emblem indicates 71 etype.
