Are the myriad of aftermarket springs all comparable as far as quality??? (HR, Eibach, Koni etc ) HR has a set for about $500 and they actually lower the Front by 1.3 Inches and the Rear by ¾. Will this lowering affect the car in any negative way
I've used eibach on many cars including their drag springs. I have always liked Thier products but never had a set on a Ferrari. Lowering the car will lower center of gravity and improve handing, but most will say you will need to get your camber reset for optimal performance since changing to a shorter spring will change your suspension geometry and Ferraris don't seem to like that much. So if you lower it make sure to get all the angles back in spec and you will be way ahead in handling over stock height. If you just use it to tool around town and never utilize it's full potential, then just lower and roll on.
Yup, if you are just wanting to lower the ride height have it done by a pro with a alignment and corner balance. The F355 is set up perfectly from the factory. If it is lowered you need it to be dialed in perfectly otherwise it could be dangerous and unpredictable at speed. The H&R springs will give you a stiffer ride limit how high you can set the suspension. If you put H&R on you can't raise it back to factory height.
I would love the look of my 355 lowered ...but how would drive it? I still scrape my front end occasionally at stock height. Do you really think you can drive it with lowered another 1.5 inches in front? most businesses I pull into here I have to hit at an angle to get in and out
Is this a serious question? It will adversely effect it in every way, except make it look like a low rider if that is your aim.
The original springs are 15 Years old and seem worn out a new set of springs, would be much more stiffer
Hi, This shows you how to lower it by simply adjusting the spring perch. Lowering Ferrari 512TR, 348, F355, 550, Mondial T?
They are stiffer than original - for sure. i have the front springs almost in the bottom (in combination with 30 mm profile tyres) total height of the car i Think is 109 cm.
A friend put in HR springs, not happy and swapped out for Fiorano springs. He is much happier . I am happy with my stock springs.
I have been looking for a set of standard rated springs but can't find any. I can only find after market springs that bare no resemblance to the characteristics of standard factory springs. If any one knows of any please let me know. Because my springs on both of my cars are over 15 years old now. Last year I bought a set of Superformance so called Fiorano rated springs. I thought these springs would be as per factory fiorano springs, thus would be close to standard road springs in terms of rating. How wrong I was, the rear springs are far far to hard for anything other than a perfectly smooth race track. The fronts were great, but the rears The rear hops about under acceleration and jumps and twitches over bumps. I contacted Superformance and they basically were not interested, saying that other people have never complained about them......yea right Like i am some inexperienced fool that know nothing about whats correct and whats dam right dangerous. I have been driving and fixing F355s for over 14 years. That changed by opinion about Superformance and I have spent thousands of £ with them Anyway the springs are being taken of and scrapped as soon as I can locate standard rated springs. Any ideas as to were I can find new standard factory spec springs?
Don´t know if this is what you look for... if you want i can sell you my original ones.. they only have 35000 km. nothing wrong with them, just wanted mine to get a Little bit lower. Just send me a PM and we take it from there. // Fredrik //
You may want to check with one of the coil spring mfg. here in the USA that make springs like Coil Spring Specialties (there is two others as well here that I am aware of). I know they make springs to your spec for old US cars because I had them make a custom set for one of my muscle cars. You actually talk to one of their engineers to get your specs. Can't imagine they couldn't do the same for an F car. They have all the original specs for the old US cars and you go from there. They should be able to get the F car specs as well. Something to think about.
I lowered my car to max... Looks great. I want to do what Freddan did however. Looks like H&R springs for me this winter. The 355 lowered does NOT look ricey. It looks ridiculously amazing. What I mean by that is it takes all the thunder from a 360, 430... Yes that amazing. I've owned a couple 355's, as well as other Italian exotics. A lowered 355 is just plain gorgeous. That's why I bought another one. She going doooowwwwwnnn.. Image Unavailable, Please Login
And... If you are complaining about making it up the drive way???? Try the stock setting on a Diablo.... There is a whole new level of technique that the 355 will never worry about. Lol.
Incorrect, they do improve the handling. I have the H&R sport springs on my car and given the tire technology improvements over the last 20 years since the 355 originally came out, I think a little stiffer spring is a good idea to keep up with newer tires. I have my fronts set at max ride height and rears set around 2/3 up to match and the car sits fairly low (see pic in my profile). However, I wouldn't swap back to stock springs as I run fairly sticky tires and have bolted on some Hoosier R6's a couple of times and the stock springs would be overwhelmed with that much grip. If you do not plan anything more serious than a backroad run, the stock springs with the suspension in sport will probably be perfect. If you want to do some more serious stuff like autox, hill climbs, or track days and you put sticky tires on I think the stock springs will be a little lacking.
