Pretty cool piece, F456. Both brands have an important history, though I'm no expert. I wish more of them appreciated like that but high volume watches of course don't and may never.
I don't know whether it makes me young or old but IMO we should all have one functional thing in our lives that doesn't depend on satellites or batteries.

I've had both. You cannot beat the pedigree of a patek, or the resale value of their more complex pieces. But for me the Langes are more beautiful. The original Lange 1 is one of watchmakings quintessential designs. They are also built like tanks and the finish is up close to the best, even if not quite to the obsessive level of a Voutilainen or a Halter, but mighty close. I found the Lange ownership experience very satisfying.

One of our friends was the President of A. Lange and Sohne for a while and I can't thank her enough for demonstrating how to correctly pronounce it! :D

Choose the one that makes you smile each time you look at it. Your not buying Swatch.

That being said. I would choose Patek each and every day, twice on Sundays.

I tried on a 5135 (g) not too long ago. Very comfortable given the way the lugs hug the wrist. Great reference.

I have never owned a Lange. But I have owned several PPs.

    Bought this recently.

Have to agree with Matt - love JLC and they are probably the best high end brand with "bang for buck" pieces. Exquisite pieces that are not overpriced. Strong tradition and possibly the King of Movements with over 1200 Calibers to their name.
I have a Duomètre which I love, as well as the iconic Reverso

I can see that Joe...guess it depends on what complications/date settings the watch has.

Absolutely love the 5135 Gondolo...would also like a 5040 PC in tonneau case.

Recently trotted into Traditional Jewelers which carries a nice selection of Lange's. Had a nice chat with the salesperson and she told me ALS is the only high end company that infuses their white gold process, whereas others use rhodium plating. Tried on some of their pieces and the finish on these watches is amazing.

I did however get a nice Aquanut for my wife.

My vintage 1960's Patek was given by my grandfather almost 20 yrs. ago and I never looked at any other timepieces the same way again. It really is the standard and still looks flawless to this day. Of course I rarely wear it only for very special occasions. However for comparison's sake, the Lange is certainly attractive with its designs.

Patek for me. To me Lange has no style, maybe they have some good finishing but their cases are uniformly too huge and blocky.

Patek has elegance, history and a heck of a service bill to match. But great resale value. That's where it trumps Lange for sure.
