After 8 years of ownership, I still have no idea what the Sport button does on my 3 Pedal 575. I've never noticed a difference. Does it just retard the ASR vs turning it off? -dsd
Me too on the 456M. With sport I can "chirp " the wheels shifting into second and get the rear moving a bit. With it off the asr kicks in asap...still don't have the cojones to drive with system off.
I cannot feel a difference in the shocks on my 3 pedal 575 in normal vs sport mode either. My car has factory FHP. Could that be the reason? Could there be an electrical issue (i.e. a fuse etc.). Admittedly, I have not compared ASR in normal or sport mode
I definitely feel the difference on my 575, not only in the reaction of the suspension, but in the transmission as well, which takes a more aggressive tone that I prefer, with rev matching on downshifts
David (Calgary)- If you had a problem with the Sport switch, you would normally get a suspension malfunction lamp. When you turn on Sport mode, does the SPORT lamp illuminate on the screen? You should be able to feel the difference in ride, nose dive during hard braking, and lean in cornering. FHP and its stiffer springs and rear anti-roll bar will dampen the differences somewhat. Also, if you have an 02 model with shock ECU 183960, you probably will not feel much difference in Sport with FHP. With 210673, you should be able to feel the difference. Even better, if you have 183960, would be to buy Clyde's spare ECU, 197211, which he bought in error. He already had 210674. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Correction Terry, I just sold my shock ECU 197211 to Philippe. It's already gone. Clyde Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good news for me too Terry, I was starting to think I might get stuck with it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I certainly notice the difference with Sport switched on in my manual 575. The car rides noticeably harder on the less than smooth roads where I live.
Terry, I will confirm if the SPORT light illuminates. Definitely no malfunction warning light. I recently sent all the interior button, switches etc. to SNM so I can confirm that all the switches are connected. I will compare nose dive under hard braking tomorrow or Sunday. My suspension is awfully stiff as it is. My previous car was a 993 turbo which had a more pleasant ride. Where exactly is the shock ECU located. I am curious which version I have. Unrelated, I get a nasty vibration above 160 kph. Both the steering wheel and car shake. Other than bent wheels, out of balanced tires, or separated tires, is there a suspension problem which would cause a high speed vibration? The ride is smooth in the 90 - 120 mph zone where out of balance wheels normally cause vibration
David- The shock ECU is in the cheek panel in front of the passenger seat. Actually very easy to access. Incidentally, Ricambi will sell you a 575M workshop manual for $125. Shows the location of all the ECUs and how to remove if necessary.
David, that strikes me as a good list of culprits for the wheel shake. I'd start with wheel balance. Tire age?
Terry, definitely no suspension warning light. Sport light comes on when sport button engaged. ECU part number 205 618. No discernible change in nose dive during hard braking. Perhaps the combination of FHP and shock ECU upgrade have masked the effects of the 'sport' setting. A silver lining is the hard braking has noticeably quieted by brakes.
David- That (205618) is the very last LHD shock ECU produced for the early (pre 52556) 575M and was never fitted at the factory. So you already have the best ECU out there that was very expensive (nearly $3K in the US). So far only one other owner I know of had one of the late ECU twins (205618 and 205619) installed and he was very happy with it. Very good chance the combination is damping the Sport response from the shock actuators. My 04 with AN 52428 (52556 was the changeover to one that worked with the steering position sensor) still had 201673. Sounds like someone updated her for you. Good news is use and mileage does drastically decrease the FHP squeal from the front brakes. When my FHP front brakes were removed at ~18,000 miles, they only squealed about once a month, just enough to make me smile. The rears, still mounted while I wait for my rear Mov'Its, do not squeal at all.
Thanks Terry. Peace of mind knowing nothing is wrong. Have been away from home for a week so I'll test out my newly balanced wheels tomorrow to see if the high speed vibration is gone.
I have been told that collapsed engine mounts can be responsible for that kind of shake. Might be worth checking.
The SPORT switch settings are very noticeable in my 550, especially since it now also switches the power steering ECU from stock to FHP. Thank you again Dave and John.
Well, the sport button does work. I am now keeping it on as the default. The best I can describe it is as follows: Highway straight line with Sport Button on (~75mph). Flipping it to off basically felt like the car exhaled and relaxed. Turning it on, she held her breath. Best way I can describe. It is subtle. Thanks all
Yes I find the 456m a bit wollowy without sport engaged. My father in law said it felt too stiff the other day so had to switch it off. As soon as he was out, sport was reengaged!
