What do they call the -8, any special name? The old 200's used to be called whales (at least the cargo versions).

Yeah, so I have a pretty good schedule this month with vacation. I have an LAX Tokyo LAX trip on the 22 - 23, and this trip today.

Todays trip was an LAX VCV flight (VCV being Victorville) I believe Victorville is the old George AFB. NCA is parking a couple of 400s to make room for the newer -8s. I believe at least one of the parked planes will be leased out. Anyways, LAX VCV with a limo back to LAX. That got me thinking. What if I could get permission to get the Eagle and the 747 close for a few pics. A few phone calls later and it was done. So I flew the Eagle up yesterday and took a one way rental home. It's my first real (short) X country (LGB VCV) in the Eagle. I say short as the flight was 37 mins takeoff to landing. I burned 7 gals. That compared to the 747... 21 mins and 1500 gals.

I didn't have too long to positon the Eagle and take a few pics. It was definitely worth it though. I don't believe I'll ever have the opportunity again. I'm guessing it's the only time these planes have been paired up.

The Eagle truly looked like a toy compared to the 747, which I guess it is in a way.

It was a memorable experience to fly the 747 and the Eagle back to back.

    Eagle, 2 pax 7 gals = 3.5gals/person.

    747, 425 pax 1500 gals = 3.5gals/person

Almost the same. Unless I did the math wrong, which is possible.

We burned approx 10,000 lbs, which I believe is around 1500 gals.

I'm guessing the parking logistics do not involve rolling the 747 to a stop with engines running right behind the Eagle? lol..
