Hagerty does watch the market. And they do a pretty valiant job of it They are at the events I attend, and they are consistently absorbing sale data & extrapolating it for their valuation site. This particular example is skewed though. And it just so happens to pertain to us. So... I have a few of the Hagerty staffs ears. I will see if they will adjust it with some of our own data.

I'd never tell anyone what I paid for something.

In real estate it's public record. Everything else it's not.

Don't know about that. In some states the sales/excise tax is collected by the DMV and if that's public it's just one calculation away from sales price.

The only way the DMV knows "sales price" is if I tell them.

They then pull out a Blue Book and see what it says.

Something like a CS would have totally inaccurate book pricing.

If they know the sales tax paid they know the price.
May not be true in states where the tax isn't paid through the DMV though.
in any case there are enough sales on record for a good approximation of current market value.

Since most of the owners and enthusiasts of these cars keep a fairly close eye on the market as it pertains to asking and sales prices, we know the reality of that chart is actually backwards.

There have been several cars that have sold for well over $200K. Most of the current advertised asking prices are north of $160K. Hagerty obviously got this one wrong.

If I write a check to a seller, there is no sales tax paid.

Many states have no sales tax on "used, private sale" cars. Sorry, I should have specified that that's how I buy cars.

If I buy a car from a seller in California, I give him a check, he gives me the title. I have a truck pick up the car and bring it to me. Now I take the title to the DMV in my state and tell them what I paid.

Many of those states seem to have disappeared. Georgia included. We now have a tax and a vehicle list with values for each car. Oddly enough, they value a Carrera GT at the same money as a comparable year Boxter. I found that kinda funny.

You're not Hagerty or the DMV. Would you give the knowledge you have to Hagerty?

I buy every car I have off of forums. That's my whole point really. The info you get here can't be had by going to a car pricing service.

Wheels are aftermarket, as are the lug bolts...and the passenger foot rest is off, with battery exposed...not presented particularly well in the photos.

anyone knows why a rear lexan window is SO expensive? This is now getting stupid! $16,000 for a replacement OEM window, and $6,000 for a used one... Why?
anywhere else to get something more reasonable?

Detailing those costs is easy. The hard part is making predictions, especially about the future :)

Obviously none of us know what will happen to future values. Despite (because of?) being an owner, I hope they don't become investments and people stop driving them and start treating them like garage art. It's one of the purest, most connected and fun street cars ever made...would be a shame to see them not, you know, get driven.
