I suppose if I was one of the people wanting to order a car and was told "sold out", I'd be happy about the increase in units. However, I do think it's a mistake.

    Anyone can be replaced

One thing I have actually learned over the years

Now only if I could replace myself with a newer model

    :)

I am sure context is everything, but here are some interesting word from LdM:

Ferrari is Building a Special Car for the U.S., Ironically
    Boldride By Jeff Perez

“Ferrari is now American, which represents the end of an era.” That’s what former Ferrari Chairman Luca di Montezemole had to say about the automaker before walking out for good earlier this week. Ironically, things are about to get even more ‘Merican at Ferrari.

According to a new report from AutoExpress, in order to celebrate Ferrari’s 60th anniversary in the U.S., the automaker will be putting together a special car with only 10 examples being built. All will be destined exclusively for the U.S. There’s no word on what it will be based on: 458 maybe? F12?

To go with these special editions, Ferrari is “planning a major event in Los Angeles to bring together all our American clients and collectors, and a charity initiative.” This event will take place on Oct. 12.

Strangely enough, the whole idea was enacted by di Montezemolo before he left the company last week. Current CEO Sergio Marchionne will continue Ferrari’s U.S. push, citing a 14.5 percent increase just last year.

It may not be exactly what di Montezemolo wanted for the business, but you can’t deny cold hard cash.

When I worked for GM in the early 90's I witnessed first hand transient plant managers that made instant gratification decisions that would benefit them and most often hurt the plant (company) long term.

Cash today might mean less cash tomorrow. Let's hope this goes well....

Actually Toyota and Enzo lifeted them out of the Stone Age with the 348. Luca just continued the process already started, simultaneously making his mark, with the 355. He already had a platform on which to base is efforts, which is why the 2 models are so similar. ;)

But Jeremy Clarkson said the 348 had 'wheels made of wood'!! ;)

Kidding aside ...... from what I understand LDM was chosen by Enzo himself to lead the company ....... which led to great things .... like the epic 355 engine ...

Now it seems Marchionne is taking the idea in a more 'commercial' direction. While maybe not so great for the new cars, this change would probably make the Enzo/LDM era cars a bit more special IMO ..... :)

Didn't Enzo Always put emphasis on his engines, and said that a customer pays for the Ferrari engine and the rest comes for free.
My 355 5 valve per cylinder head, 380 hp longitudinal engine does not resemble the Mondial transverse engine....I mean 348;)
Putting aside that the 348s gear box is operated by lenghts of string :)

You r such a card! The bottom end of your fine 355 engine is a 348 (okay, not entirely). The "free" chassis is from the 348. The 1995 355 has the same M27 ECUs. The brakes are the same (at least for earlier 355s). All the misc. parts that are not from Ferrari are on the 348 and (shudder) the Mondial T as well. Face it, the 348 DNA is pervasive! And you have Enzo to thank. Enzo is the father of the 355 and LdM is the wet nurse. :)

Great post Vince :) ......... However I would like to think of Enzo as the father and LDM as the Godfather of the 355 .........

The 348 has been the punching bag for so long its hard to tell when its innocent joking, thank god the great little car is getting the recognition it deserves
I think the day they built the ladt 355 was the end of the era. Whichever flavor you like 348 or 355 , they are the last cars that feel alive . I have a customer with a 360 , first i cant get past the looks , but when i drive it , it feels exactly like what it is , an inanimate machine , for me , it does nothing , but a 348 or 355 , its indescribeable , any 348/355 knows what i mean , the 360 began the change , and i know the 360 and newer owners love their cars , and if they didnt start f car ownership with earlier cars it could be hard to understand , but anyone whose owned a 355 or earlier car gets it .
Dont anyone with a car newer than s 355 take it personal , i'm only saying that for me , i just dont feel it , maybe its just me, my younger guys in the shop like the 360 and newer models, they are not bad cars , but something isnt there that IS there in the earlier cars .

Yea its just one of them things mate. It happens to both the 348 and 355s, last month was open season on the 355 if i recall correctly.
Also if i go further back, this kind of banter has been on this 348/355 forum ever since i can remember. However some owners take it as a personal insult to them selves, bloody forums:rolleyes:
Regarding the recognition of the "little car", if its not recognised some owners sulk and try to force the issue. Its only a car gentlemen ;)

What some call banter, others say j/k. And then others will say that it's oh so tiring...

The 348 is one of my favorite Ferraris but because of the 348/355 "fun" this forum is one of my least favorites. Thank God for all of the tech threads...

BTW, how in the hell does one become smart enough to realize that you were having a bit of fun?
