First let me say that my top works fine both going down and up. But there is a quirk in the operation when going up that I am wondering about. As you should know if you have a spider, there are two sets of hydraulic rams that operate the top. When the top is going up (closing) initially one set of rams raises the top from the storage position. Then a relay opens the valve to the second set of rams which extend the top forward to the windshield. That is where my question comes in. When the valve is open to the second set of rams I hear the pump motor speed up as if there is no load on it (no pressure in the system). It does this for a second or two or three, then starts to labor a bit as it pressurizes the second set of rams and the top then fully extends toward the windshield.

The question is, is this delay when closing the top normal?

I thought there might be some air in the system but the fluid level is at max.

This has nothing to do with the elastic straps or anything else. It's just a pause in the top closing sequence that seems a little longer than I would expect.

There is certainly a pause before the secondary rams operate. I have noticed differences from car to car, indeed some will operate and the top reaches the windshield, others extend and stop, you manually pull the rest of the way. Bleeding, flushing and many hours of adjustment and study on these tops, I have no idea why they differ car to car. I have found that when I have one operating fully, to leave it alone, it only becomes a black hole for eating up your time! LOL

My beep occurs at about 12 inches from the windshield and it seems to stop there as well on the way up. Is that normal. It seems kind of far away from completion of the cycle but it works so I guess I should be happy.

Mine pauses as well John. I haven't really paid attention to the length of the pause. I'll post a you tube video of it.

I know what you mean. I really don't want to fool with it but bleeding the system wouldn't be too difficult. It is just that when it switches over to the secondary ram the pump speeds up and to me that indicates a lack of pressure which could be air in the system, or normal. I just don't know. But as I said, it's only for a few seconds and then the pressure build and the top extends forward to the windshield.

Not worrying about the pause seems like the best tack to take.

Mine will fully extend to the windshield. I tend to stop it slightly before because if I let it go all the way it slaps down on the windshield frame pretty hard, which can't be good, and then I have to push it back a little anyway to insert and lock the latch.

Bob, if it goes down and you can put it back up without the emergency switch or the hand tool, IT WORKS. Leave it alone. I wasn't going to try to "fix" anything. Just wondering about the pause.

If you use the top at all ..... check the fluid reservoir level every couple years and make sure it is within the max/min lines. It will help prevent future issues. For some reason the fluid likes to evaporate ...... yes, I said evaporate ....... ;)
